Strange illness spreads in Kano, six dead, 46 hospitalised

The Kano state government on Monday confirmed that six persons died of a strange disease in Minjibir Local Government Area of the state. The Commissioner for Health of the state, Dr Aminu Ibrahim-Tsanyawa, who confirmed this said 46 other affected persons had been hospitalised. Mr Ibrahim-Tsanyawa said the disease broke out in Gandun Koya village on May 7, and spread to adjourning communities. “The cause of the outbreak can be attributed to open defecation and poor sanitation in the communities. “The patients presented symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting. “Six persons died of the disease, 28 were discharged and 18 others are still on admission,” he  said. Mr Ibrahim-Tsanyawa said the ministry had begun investigation to unravel the cause of the disease.

The health ministry also confirmed that 12 new cases of Coronavirus was recorded in the state, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 970. Colonel Hameed Ali (retd), the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service on Saturday May 30, married a new wife. The NCS comptroller who served as the military administrator of Kaduna State from 1996 to 1998, took a new wife nearly two years after his first wife Hajiya Hadiza Jummai Ali died in Abuja on October 29, 2018. Two COVID-19 Deaths Recorded in Kano as one Patient gets Discharged

Two more COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in Kano state. The state Ministry of Health disclosed this on its verified Twitter handle on Tuesday morning. One more patient was also discharged from the state's Isolation center after testing negative twice to the virus. The state has so far recorded 38 COVID-19 related deaths.

Coronavirus patient escapes from Benue Isolation Center

A Coronavirus patient who was being quarantined at one of the isolation centre in Benue State, has disappeared from the facility. The patient identified as Masefan Ayilaga is said to be a yam trader from Jootar, who recently returned from Kano State. Ayilaga who contracted the virus during one of his business trips to Kano, disappeared from the isolation center before his test result came back positive. Residents of the state who have been in contact with him, have also been advised to come forward for testing.

Imo Government traces contacts of third confirmed coronavirus case from Kano

The Imo Government has begun tracing of the contacts of a third confirmed case of COVID-19, who recently returned from Kano State. This information is contained in a release signed by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Damaris Osunkwo and made available to newsmen in Owerri on Monday. Osunkwo said that the patient, 43, from Ehume in Obowo LGA, was receiving treatment alongside the other patients at an isolation centre in the state and were all responding positively to treatment. The commissioner also said that samples from persons considered close to him had already been sent to the laboratory for tests, adding that the ministry was investigating the rumour of other suspected cases. Kano COVID-19 Index Case Discharged After Testing Negative Twice

Kano COVID-19 index case, Ambassador Kabiru Rabiu has been discharged after testing negative twice. The state coordinator of the COVID-19 rapid response, Tijjani Hussaini confirmed this to Channels Television. Ambassador Kabiru Rabiu was the index case of COVID-19 in Kano discovered on April, 11 at a private hospital in the metropolis. Mr Hussaini said the former diplomat was discharged from Kwanar Dawaki Isolation centre on Sunday morning after he fully recovered from the disease.

Five More COVID-19 Deaths Recorded in Kano State

Five more  COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded in Kano state. The state Ministry of Health disclosed this on its twitter handle on Saturday morning, May 9. This brings to 18 the number of deaths from the ravaging viral disease in Kano state. Three more COVID-19 patients have been discharged in the state on Friday May 7 while 65 new cases were recorded. The state currently has 507 active cases of the viral disease.

Lockdown: Kano mobile courts convict 717 violators

Kano State Judiciary said no fewer than 717 violators of the Presidential lockdown were arrested and convicted from Sunday to Wednesday in Kano. The Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has appointed Alhaji Kabiru Mohammed Inuwa, the district head of Kibiya, as the new Emir of Rano. The appointment comes barely four days after the death of the previous first class Emir. Inuwa, before his latest appointment, was the District Head of Kibiya in Kano State. He succeeds the late Emir Tafida Abubakar Ila, who died on Saturday in Kano at the age of 74. The late emir died after battling with an undisclosed ailment.
