Tanker Explosion On Kara Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Road: LRU & Fire Service Were Attacked By Hoodlums While Responding To Fire

The agency responded to the incident at 0105hrs this morning according to the State emergency response plan. The joint team (agency + @LAG_FireService) was waylaid on arrival by a group of miscreants brandishing weapons and was forced to seek extra police cover from the Isheri Police Station. The operation commenced with the police protection until the group of assailants grew larger and caused significant damage to vehicles and threats to life of our personnel. The team was forced to suspend the Recovery operation for safety reasons. It is of note that this attack is part of a very worrisome trend of first responders being attacked in the course of their duties. Lagosians are urged to refrain from endangering the lives of emergency responders.

Fuel-Laden Tankers Explode On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Cause Heavy Traffic

Multiple tanker accidents in Ojodu Berger, Kara bridge, involving four tankers are causing heavy traffic along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The situation is being managed by Lagos State firefighters and traffic controller, the police, and federal road safety commission to ease vehicular movement. Details of the incident are still yet unknown but a witness said the fire started after a loud bang. However, some social media comments reveal that the incident started around 1 am.

FG to open Lagos-Ibadan expressway ‘Kara Bridge’ on December 1st

The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Adedamola Kuti, has said the barricade around Kara Bridge would be removed on Sunday, December 1 to ease the traffic situation around that axis. Kuti said that construction work had been completed on that part of the road. According to him, when the contractors return to the site in January, construction work will commence on the outbound-Lagos traffic side of the road. “Now that inbound has been completed, we don’t want to start work on the outbound and leave it halfway, so we decided to open the road to commuters tomorrow, Sunday, so that people can move freely this Christmas,” Kuti said. Lagos-ibadan Expressway: We Worry Over Rush Hour Traffic – Motorists

Motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday appealed to traffic regulatory agencies to manage traffic beyond closing hours, to minimise the impact of gridlocks arising from the partial closure of the highway. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 600 metres stretch of the highway was shut early on Monday from Kara Bridge inward Ojodu Berger on the Lagos bound carriageway for repairs. When NAN correspondent visited the site, a large deployment of policemen and traffic regulatory agencies could be seen at the Isheri intersection on Berger Bridge.
