Coach Steve Onishola Dies 24 Hours After Orisabunmi, His Sister’s Death

Coach Steve Onishola, the Technical Director of Kwara Falcons Basketball Club of Ilorin, is dead. Onishola died barely 24 hours after his younger sister, Folake Aremu, a Nollywood actress, popularly called Orisabunmi, died at 60. The State Chairman of the association, Dr. Joseph Adeyemo, confirmed the death in Ilorin on Thursday. The late basketball coach was said to have passed on at 71 on Thursday in Illorin, following a brief illness. The deceased was the Manager of Falcons on different occasions before he was appointed the club’s technical director. The Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) factions led by Musa Kida and Tijjani Umar, from conducting any fresh Premier Basketball League for the purposes of selecting the men basketball club representatives to the 2018/2019 African Continental Club Championship pending the determination of the substantive suit before it. Champions of the 2018 Kwese Premier League, Gombe Bulls Basketball Club have told the African regional body of FIBA that they should not be dragged into the lingering leadership dispute of the Nigeria Basketball federation, NBBF Chairman of the club, Ibrahim Saad said yesterday in reply to a letter written to the club by Julien Farran,  Competitions Manager, Africa of FIBA that players and teams in the Kwese Premier including Gombe Bulls are only interested in playing basketball and not politics.
