The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, on Sunday night, September 19, successfully rescued four persons trapped in a grey Toyota Camry with registration number KRD-822FX after a 40ft containerized truck fell on it at Abalti Barracks.   The four victims, two males and two females,were administered pre-hospital care by the Agency's Paramedics and were thereafter transferred to General Hospital, Marina for further treatment.

A Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has stopped the governments of Rivers and Lagos from collecting Value Added Taxes (VAT), pending the determination of an appeal filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The appellate court which said the order was to preserve the ‘Res’ (subject matter) of the appeal before it, gave the order on Friday September 10. Lagos Assembly passes bills on open grazing ban, VAT

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the state’s Value Added Tax (VAT) and the bill that prohibits open cattle grazing. The Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, directed the acting Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, to transmit a clean copy to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assent. The two bills were passed after unanimous votes by the lawmakers at the sitting where they were read the third time. Obasa commended his colleagues for their passion to see that the state continues to grow. “I thank you all for this historic exercise,” the Speaker said. Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has ordered the freezing of N19,178, 253,050 belonging to convicted former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB, Francis Atuche. The Judge gave the order following an ex parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on August 17, 2021. The funds, investigation showed, were domiciled in 24 different banks in Nigeria. EFCC counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) told the court that 15 persons and 22 firms were used by Atuche and his co-respondent, Ugo Anyanwu, a former Chief Financial Officer of the bank, to launder the funds. Lagos records four COVID-19 related deaths

Lagos State has recorded four COVID-19 related deaths between July 14 and July 17 2021. The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who made the disclosure on his Facebook page, said that the deaths increased the state’s COVID-19 related mortality to 363. He, however, did not give additional information about the deceased’s sex or age. According to him, there are currently 1,045 active COVID-19 cases in communities being managed under Home Based Care. The Lagos State Government has said 89 men reported that they were battered by their wives in cases of domestic violence between 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.
