Why I Initiated #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon Protest – Reno Omokri

One of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s ex-aide, Reno Omokri, said yesterday he initiated the #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon protest because he wanted to put a closure to the #EndSARS protests which swept across the country last year. Recall that the US government said last week that there was no evidence to show that people were fire at by the military during the shooting at Lekki tollgate in Lagos. But Omokri said in a statement: ‘’I flew into London on April 2, 2021, to lead the #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon protest, and I went there straight from the airport. I did not eat, sleep, shower or rest. ‘’The President’s people called the City of London Police on me, and I was questioned. At the end of the questioning, which was streamed live to my followers, they announced with their mouths ...

Lagos Must Prove Seyi Tinubu Doesn’t Control Tollgates — Bode George

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has called on the Lagos State Government to prove that the son of an All Progressives Congress leader, Seyi Tinubu, does not own or control the Lekki tollgate. George called on the Lagos State Government to do this by honouring Freedom of Information requests and revealing the terms of agreement between the Lekki Concession Company and the state government. The PDP chieftain said this in a statement on Friday titled, “We Must Withdraw from the Brink”. He said the state government must address allegations that Tinubu’s son and his former Chief of Staff, Sunday Dare, who is now the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, control the tollgate. Those Who Brutalised #OccupyLekkiTollgate Protesters Won’t Go Free – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said policemen who allegedly brutalised #OccupyLekkiTollgate protesters at the Lekki tollgate last Saturday won’t go free. Information and Strategy Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso stated this on Monday at a media briefing organised by the Lekki Concession Company (LCC). He said Sanwo-Olu never directed the police to assault anyone and would not stand by and watch Lagosians being brutalised. Omotoso and LCC Managing Director Yomi Omomuwasan were responding to the controversy surrounding the firm’s repossession of the Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza, called Lekki Tollgate Plaza. The firm regained possession of the facility following a February 6 ruling of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS-related ...

God Of Iron Will Kill You’, Policeman Tells Arrested Protesters

One of the officers of the Lagos State Police Command, Saturday, told arrested protesters at the Lekki Tollgate in a video trending on Twitter that ‘god of iron will kill them.’ The officer said this while addressing the arrested protesters including Mr. Marcaroni. They were handcuffed and stripped of their shirts and singlets. While one of the officers calmly asked them what they were thinking, an officer was heard cursing the arrested protesters in Yoruba language, “Ogun ma pa yin” (God of iron will kill you). Not deterred by the arrest of the first set, another group of peaceful unarmed protesters arrived at the Toll Plaza chanting, “How many people government go kill?”. Although they sat on the ground to demand justice, they were also apprehended like their fellow prote...

#Endsars: Lagos Demolishes Community Whose Residents Saw Lekki Tollgate Shooting

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Tasks Force accompanied by policemen and persons suspected to be thugs have burnt down a community whose residents witnessed the October 20 shooting of peaceful protesters by soldiers at the Lekki Tollgate. PREMIUM TIMES sourced some of its witnesses from the community for its groundbreaking investigation into the shooting, which revealed that soldiers and policemen shot directly at the protesters killing some and injuring several others. After originally claiming that soldiers deployed to the tollgate to disperse the protesters were given only blank rounds and that “they merely shot in the air”, the army later admitted that the troops were carrying both live rounds and blank bullets. The Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile, has reacted to the planned protest slated for Saturday, February 13, 2020, against the reopening of the Lekki tollgate in the state. The organisers of the protest are angered by a ruling for the tollgate to be reopened as issued by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses. The control of the tollgate, which was the epicentre of the October 2020 #EndSARS protest against police brutality and bad governance in Nigeria, was ordered to be returned to the Lekki Concession Company. Not pleased by the panel’s decision, some Nigerians on Twitter threatened to occupy the tollgate on Saturday to express their displeasure. Reacting to the planned protest, Akosile,...

#EndSars: Lagos Lost N2.5billion To Lekki Tollgate Closure In 95 Days

The Lagos State Government has lost at least N2.5bn in projected revenue due to the closure of the Lekki toll plaza and the Ikoyi Link Bridge toll plaza in the last 95 days, The PUNCH has learnt. The figure was obtained from the daily and monthly targets set for the tollgates by the Lagos State Government, which owns the tollgates but is being managed by the Lekki Concession Company. The Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge is expected to generate about N10m daily, while the Lekki toll plaza is not expected to generate less than N16.6m a day. This implies that the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge has lost N950m, while the Lekki toll plaza has lost N1.5bn. Representing the Army was Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, Commander of the 81 Division, Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island. “FAKE NEWS” – That was the Nigerian Army’s first response to reports that its personnel opened fire at the #EndSARS protest ground in Lekki, Lagos state. The army shared a picture of a post claiming that soldiers were directed “to shoot at peaceful, unarmed #EndSARS protesters” at the tollgate, stamping it with “FAKE NEWS”, its usual signature to debunk whatever it considers unfavourable. But with time, it became clear that the army might have a different definition of “fake news” from the common reference to misinformation and disinformation. Between the time it shared the first post and Saturday, when it appeared before the Lagos panel of enquiry, the army has debunked 18 social media posts relating to the incident – but it has also gone ahead to admit most of them. Hoodlums Wearing Army Uniform Behind Lekki Shooting – Malami

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), says it is likely that hoodlums wearing military fatigues — and not soldiers — shot #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos state. About two weeks ago, protests calling for the disbandment of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) took flight across the country. The police unit was disbanded but the protests persisted as citizens demanded reforms in the force. Protesters converged on the tollgate for 13 days before they were forcefully dispersed by soldiers. There are reports that some of the protesters were killed by the soldiers who stormed the tollgate on October 20, 2020, but there are disparities in the number of casualties and no clear evidence has been produced. While there are reports that many persons were killed by soldiers, only one case has been confirmed so far. In an interview with PUNCH, Osoba Olaniyi, spokesman of the 81 division of the Nigerian Army, said it is unprofessional for the army to name the soldiers who were in action on that day. “It is against operational security.
