‘Don’t joke with that one’ – Pogba defends Ibrahimovic against racism allegations

The Manchester United midfielder has jumped to support the Swede following his confrontation with Romelu Lukaku in the Milan derby on Tuesday Paul Pogba has defended his former team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic against accusations of racism following the Swedish forward's clash with Romelu Lukaku on Tuesday. Ibrahimovic and Lukaku were involved in a heated confrontation on the pitch during AC Milan's Coppa Italia quarter-final against their city rivals, which Inter eventually won 2-1. The Swede scored the opener in the match before he was sent off in the second half for a second yellow card. Lukaku netted the equaliser for Inter and the match was capped off by a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Christian Eriksen.

Juventus and Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a swap deal including Dybala and Lukaku

According to Corriere dello Sport in Italy, the swap is 'ready', with a deal very close to being agreed between the two clubs. Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici is said to be pressing to convince the Argentine that a move to Old Trafford would work, with the end of the English transfer window edging ever closer. The Belgian striker has not travelled with his United team-mates to a training camp in Norway this week, further hinting at his impending exit. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the 26-year-old four days to complete his move away, and although he looks set for a move to Italy, it is as yet unclear exactly where.

Pogba & Lukaku plan crunch talks with Man Utd boss Solskjaer

Manchester United are set to hold crunch talks with two of their most important players. As the Red Devils' stars return to training for pre-season, United are set to hold talks with Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba. Both players have expressed a desire to leave in the summer, albeit for different reasons. Lukaku is not happy at being second choice in his position, while Pogba wants a move to Real Madrid. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hold talks with both players to gauge their commitment for the coming season, according to ESPN. A Pogba sale seems unlikely, but Lukaku could move if United receive an acceptable offer well before the closing of the Premier League transfer window. Inter Milan are the club with the greatest interest in the Belgian striker.

Lukaku’s striking ambition pleases Solskjaer as Man Utd beat Palace

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was glad to see Romelu Lukaku making the most of playing in his favoured central striker role with two goals in Manchester United’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Lukaku has been asked to fill in on the flanks in recent weeks, with caretaker United manager Solskjaer preferring to employ Marcus Rashford through the middle. But with Rashford not fully fit and named amongst the substitutes at Selhurst Park, Lukaku was restored to his preferred position and responded with a goal in each half to complete a win that maintained Solskjaer’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 11 games since he took charge in mid-December. And the manager, himself a former United striker, was in no doubt that the positional switch had played a key role in Belgium interna...

Striker Romelu Lukaku and defender Diogo Dalot missed training on Tuesday ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League match at Juventus but captain Antonio Valencia and Marouane Fellaini returned. The match in Turin on Wednesday pits Juve’s Cristiano Ronaldo against the team he played for from 2003-09. Lukaku has been out of form, having failed to score for his club since mid-September, and was dropped to the bench for United’s 2-1 home victory against Everton on October 28. The Belgian, who has scored only four Premier League goals so far this season, missed the trip to Bournemouth last Saturday due to injury. Right-back Dalot, Fellaini and Valencia have all been absent due to injury but the latter two were part of the main group in Jose Mourinh...

Champions League: Sharpe, Keown Carpet Lukaku’s ‘Poor’ Performance

Former Manchester United star, Lee Sharpe says he has never seen a bad striker that cannot handle the ball as United striker, Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku is going through one of the toughest periods of his career and has not scored in his last eight appearances for the Red Devils. Following their Champions League defeat at the hands of the Italian giants, Juventus, on Monday, United boss, Jose Mourinho admitted his first-choice striker was struggling and could drop him for Marcus Rashford during the clash against Everton this weekend. However, Sharpe has criticized Lukaku’s recent decline in form and says it might be useful for Mourinho to give the striker a rest. “I’ve never seen a center-forward with such a bad touch,” Metro UK quoted Sharpe as saying. “If your center-fo...

Romelu Lukaku believes his scoreless streak is down to the fact he has yet to fully click with his  Manchester United  teammates. Lukaku He has netted five goals in his last four outings for his country, with the striker suggesting a closer bond with his international teammates is behind the difference in goal rates. “I don’t know,” Lukaku said. “With Belgium I’ve been playing for 10 years, since I was 16. Players know me much more. “Here I still think my teamwork between myself and my teammates can improve and be much better. It’s something that we’re working. “The players need to know me and know my movement. Ronaldo Juve lead the way in Group H with two wins from two, whereas United are two points further back after drawing with Valencia in their last European outing. Anthony Martial  is expected to keep his place in the United side after scoring twice against Chelsea to take his tally to three goals in his last two games for the club. Fellow forward  Romelu Lukaku  is not in such hot form in front of goal, though, having now failed to find the back of the net in his last seven outings for United. Marital Scored Twice To Give United The Lead

Pogba, at fault for the first goal, emerged from a three-on-one situation on the halfway line to feed in Lukaku and the Belgian played it out to Rashford. Mata had a fine shot stopped but Chelsea couldn’t clear the ball and after David Luiz went down off the ball Martial found himself free to smash home past Kepa Arrizabalaga. It was a deserved equaliser on the balance of play but what really would have worried Maurizio Sarri was how his Chelsea side stopped playing their own game. The Blues had made an empthatic start to the season under the Italian but the Chelsea defence suddenly looked nervous and were giving up chances to United. Luiz’s role in the first had put him off his game and he made a crazy decision to lunge in on Mata on the right wing. The Brazilian missed his chall...

Manchester United Won’t Win Premier League With Romelu Lukaku, Says Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes has cast doubt over Manchester United’s title credentials with Romelu Lukaku leading the line. The Manchester United legend believes the Belgium international lacks the link-up play to thrive at Old Trafford and questioned his workrate. Lukaku has scored 20 Premier League goals in 40 starts since his arrival at the club, including four goals this season, but Scholes is not convinced he is good enough at the moment to spearhead the United attack singlehandedly. ‘I’m just not sure you are ever going to win the league with a goal scorer like him,’ he told ESPN. Scholes criticised Lukaku (Picture: VCG) ‘I don’t think his play outside of the box is good enough. Mourinho Dedicates United Win To Under-fire Woodward

Jose Mourinho dedicated Manchester United’s 2-0 victory at Burnley to beleaguered executive Ed Woodward as his club returned to winning ways in an incident-packed clash at Turf Moor. United manager Mourinho, whose name was chanted throughout the afternoon by the 2,400 travelling supporters, also claimed Marcus Rashford had been naive in being shown a straight red card, just 10 minutes after appearing as a 60th minute substitute, following an altercation with Phil Bardsley. By that stage, United were comfortably in front thanks to two goals from Romelu Lukaku and could even afford the luxury of a missed Paul Pogba penalty, won by Rashford following a foul by Ben Mee, and saved well by Joe Hart. But, given the delicate political situation at Old Trafford currently, the afternoon...

Mkhitaryan made only 26 Premier League starts during his 18 month-spell at Old Trafford, before he was offloaded to Arsenal last month. Speaking, Rooney said: “I’ve seen it last season in training a lot, he’s a very talented player. “I think at Manchester United he didn’t get the freedom he really wanted to go and perform, that he had at Dortmund and that style of play that Dortmund played. “And at Arsenal he’ll have players round him running off the ball, taking the ball and he’ll create goals and score goals. Jose Mourinho Highlights Jurgen Klopp Inconsistency Over Virgil Van Dijk

Jose Mourinho has mischievously highlighted the changing view of Jurgen Klopp after his Liverpool counterpart spent £75 million to sign Southampton’s Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk this week. The Manchester United manager cheekily suggested on Friday that if he were a member of the media, he would ask Klopp about his comments, 18 months ago, when the German claimed he would not want to spend huge amounts of money even if it were available to him. At that time, Klopp was responding to a summer in which United were on the verge of breaking the world record by paying £89 million for Paul Pogba – a figure “only” £14 million more than Liverpool spent this week to land van Dijk. “You know, I think the one that speaks about it in a specific way has to be Jurgen,” said Mourinho ahead of S...

United have been criticised for some of their performances recently and there were boos from sections of Old Trafford last weekend when Marcus Rashford was taken off Anthony Martial against Tottenham. Mourinho appeared to send a message to those dissenting United supporters in his programme notes before the game against Benfica on Tuesday, saying: “I hope that you enjoy the game more than some of you did against Tottenham.” Former United defender Neville thinks Mourinho’s approach will get a positive reaction from his players ahead of their trip to Chelsea on Sunday. The Red Devils took a step closer to qualification from Group A, with a 2-0 win over Benfica at Old Trafford. The second goal of the night came through a Daley Blind penalty after Mourinho had told Lukaku he could not take spot kick. After substitute, Marcus Rashford was brought down in the box, Lukaku grabbed the ball. Then the Portuguese gaffer gestured to Ander Herrera, and then Lukaku himself, that the £75 million striker should pass the ball to Blind. Anthony Martial had already seen a first-half penalty saved by 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar. Mourinho told a postmatch news conferenc...

Asked about Lukaku's contribution, Mourinho said: 'I would like the supporters to explain to me why they don't support him so much because he gives everything. 'I think it is not fair when scoring the goal or not scoring the goal makes the whole difference. I don't think it is fair at all. So I'm a bit disappointed - but not with him. Carrick himself was the subject of a similar big-money move when United bought him from Tottenham for £18.6m in June 2006. He also made the move amid some pressure himself, with Sir Alex Ferguson identifying Carrick as a replacement for Roy Keane, who had left the club six months previously. “The jump is massive,” Carrick told The Guardian. “I found that myself coming from Tottenham. The two players developed a close bond and, by a twist of fate, Lukaku is now in line to make his United debut on Saturday against an LA Galaxy side captained by Van Damme.
