ISWAP Attacks Dikwa Town In Borno

Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) insurgents are currently attacking Dikwa town about 90 km east of Maiduguri, Borno State capital, Northeast Nigeria. HumAngle learned that ISWAP fighters have taken control of major access roads into Dikwa. The security situation in the garrison town is fluid and developing. This is at least the fourth attack by ISWAP targeting Dikwa town since January 2021. During the previous attack in March, insurgents dislodged troops, overran the town and destroyed parts of the United Nations humanitarian hub after a siege that trapped aid workers in a bunker. On Saturday, the UN announced the suspension of humanitarian operations in Dikwa and Damasak.

The Federal Government has alerted airport security chiefs across the country of impending attacks by suspected criminals. Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has discovered 528 illegal occupants of an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, officials of the state government have said. The Governor paid a midnight visit to the camp on Tuesday, where he carried out a headcount. The camp holds IDPs from Bama, Konduga and Damboa LGAs of Borno. 5 Dead, 45 Injured As Suicide Bomber Hits Maiduguri

The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), on Sunday said five persons were killed and 45 others injured in a suicide bomb attack in the outskirts of Maiduguri. Mr Kachalla Usman, the Head of Emergency Response Operations of SEMA, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri. Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri of PDP has emerged winner of Adamawa Governorship election. The Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Andrew Haruna, who declared the result Thursday in Yola after the supplementary election in 44 units across 14 local government areas of the state, said Fintiri polled 376,552 votes to beat his closest rival, Gov. Muhammadu Bindow of APC, who scored 336,386 votes. He said that Sen. Election Update: Maiduguri Under Attack

Maiduguri is under attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorist, just few hours to the commencement of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, are currently in panic as series of explosions have rocked the city all within ten minutes. The report claims there have been seven explosions in the city today, the explosions began at around 5:50am and ended a little around 6am. Residents of Maiduguri, Borno state are said to be worried about their safety, especially with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to begin in less than two hours. At the time of this report, it was not clear the number of casualties, or how much properties were destroyed.

The detained Maiduguri Bureau Chief of Daily Trust, Uthman Abubakar, has been released by the military authorities who detained him since Sunday afternoon. The Editor-in-Chief of Daily Trust, Mannir Dan-Ali, announced the release shortly after speaking to the editor who was brought back to the Maiduguri office by an unnamed Major who handed him over to a Security officer at the office.
