ISWAP Attacks Dikwa Town In Borno

Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) insurgents are currently attacking Dikwa town about 90 km east of Maiduguri, Borno State capital, Northeast Nigeria. HumAngle learned that ISWAP fighters have taken control of major access roads into Dikwa. The security situation in the garrison town is fluid and developing. This is at least the fourth attack by ISWAP targeting Dikwa town since January 2021. During the previous attack in March, insurgents dislodged troops, overran the town and destroyed parts of the United Nations humanitarian hub after a siege that trapped aid workers in a bunker. On Saturday, the UN announced the suspension of humanitarian operations in Dikwa and Damasak.

Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has discovered 528 illegal occupants of an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, officials of the state government have said. The Governor paid a midnight visit to the camp on Tuesday, where he carried out a headcount. The camp holds IDPs from Bama, Konduga and Damboa LGAs of Borno. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), on Sunday said five persons were killed and 45 others injured in a suicide bomb attack in the outskirts of Maiduguri. Mr Kachalla Usman, the Head of Emergency Response Operations of SEMA, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri. Maiduguri is under attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorist, just few hours to the commencement of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, are currently in panic as series of explosions have rocked the city all within ten minutes. The report claims there have been seven explosions in the city today, the explosions began at around 5:50am and ended a little around 6am.
