PDP Urges Buhari To Hire Mercenaries To Fight Insurgency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to hire mercenaries to fight the insurgency war. The party also said it is yet to make a decision on which zone would produce the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general election. Speaking on ARISE NEWS CHANNEL, the broadcast arm of THISDAY Newspapers, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, also dismissed reports that the party is in disarray, saying the Senator Bukola Saraki-led reconciliation committee is addressing members’ grievances. He accused the Buhari administration of not listening to and utilising the advice given to it on a range of challenges facing the country, explaining that the PDP has always proffered solutions for all critical areas ...

Zulum Asks FG To Hire Mercenaries, Seek Foreign Support To End Insurgency

Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has asked the federal government to hire mercenaries and seek support of neighbouring countries in the fight against insurgency. The governor spoke at the North-east Governors Forum meeting which held in Bauchi on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Bala Mohammed, Ahmadu Fintiri, Muhammad Yahaya and Darius Ishaku; governors of Bauchi, Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba states respectively. Zulum, who chairs the forum, said joint action is required to end the insurgency. “Again, I want to use this opportunity to call on the federal government to seek support from our neighbours, especially the Republic of Chad and Niger with a view to providing a joint action that will look into the possibility of ending this crisis,” he said. “Furthermore, federal ...

Kidnapped Niger Students: Settle Your Mercenaries – PDP To Buhari, APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asked President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to settle their “mercenaries”. The PDP gave the advice to reaction to bandits’ kidnap of staff and students of Government Secondary School, Kagara in Niger State. The spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Wednesday, lamented that while Nigerians were under attack, the APC was carrying out membership registration and revalidation exercise. PDP said the stance of the APC administration towards the fight against banditry further validates reports that the bandits are enjoying cover under the ruling party. The opposition said it explains why the APC never raised a strong voice against what has become a national calamity. Ologbondiyan noted that instead, APC l...

Boko Haram: We’ll not help Nigeria again, Buhari rubbished us after Jonathan left – Mercenaries

Days after North-East Governors urged President Muhammadu Buhari to use mercenaries to fight Boko Haram, the foreign military contractors earlier engaged by Nigeria have vowed never to return. The fighters took the battle to terrorists in Sambisa forest and other enclaves during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. Then, Nigeria covertly brought in ‘military-technical advisers’ regarded as mercenaries from South Africa and the former Soviet Union. Ahead of the 2015 general election, the hitmen day and night dealt Boko Haram severe blows. Regional security, defence and diplomatic sources were aware of the development. There was also a tacit confirmation by Jonathan that two companies were providing “trainers and technicians” to help Nigerian forces. Now, ...

Boko Haram: FG Will Determine Mercenaries’ Engagement —DHQ

The Defence Headquarters says the decision to engage mercenaries to assist the military in defeating the Boko Haram insurgency is squarely for the Federal Government to take. It noted that the security forces cannot challenge the initiative, stressing that it was up to Nigerians and the government to contract the private army. Following the killing of over 43 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Borno State, by Boko Haram insurgents last Saturday, Governor Babagana Zulum had demanded the engagement of foreign mercenaries to tackle the militants. Endorsing Zulum’s demand, the governors of North-East states said the thought of hiring mercenaries to fight Boko Haram should be taken seriously. But responding to a question from The PUNCH during the weekly briefing on the security operatio...

Governor Zulum Recommends the Use of Mercenaries to Defeat Boko Haram

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has recommended the recruitment of foreign mercenaries by the federal government to help in ending the Boko Haram war. The previous Goodluck Jonathan administration utilised foreign mercenaries, including South Africans, against Boko Haram; mainly in the build-up to the 2015 general elections. The mercenaries are believed to have contributed to the successes the military recorded in the few weeks leading to the 2015 general election. The Buhari administration, however, jettisoned the use of mercenaries, promising to equip and empower the Nigerian military to defeat the insurgents. Mr Zulum made his suggestion when he received a federal government delegation that visited the state to commiserate with the people of Borno over the Saturda...

Bbnaija Mercy Clears Air On Reason She Lashed Out At Fans For Encroaching On Her Privacy

4 days ago on April 28, 2020, Big Brother Naija season 4 winner, Mercy Chinenyenwa Eke shared a post on her social media page, via Twitter warning people over encroachment on her personal space. Since that day, many thought the reality star was directly telling fans to desist from trolling and invading her privacy. But it seems now that the Imo State born was indirectly talking to some business partners who disrupt her daily business schedules. In a recent tweet which she shared on her micro-blogging platform, May 2, 2020, Mercy explained that her previous post wasn’t in any way directed at her fans and wouldn’t happen in as much as she has chosen them as family. She continued and stated categorically clear that she was referring to some people who already know themselves an...

Govts, Army, Senate tackle insecurity

The Federal Government yesterday revealed how illegal mining activities aggravated insecurity in Zamfara before its April 7 prohibition order and launch of special operations to stop bandits in the state. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who featured at a Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Programme, “Good Morning Nigeria”, said banditry, kidnapping, killing and cattle rustling were largely sponsored by the illegal miners in the state. Speaking on the Programme monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, the minister said the miners were fueling instability in the state to pave the way for their illegal activities. “People begin to ask what is the nexus between instability in Zamfara, kidnapping and banditry and illegal mining. “Ther...

Neymar Branded ‘Traitor’ And ‘Mercenary’ On Poster In Barcelona

With Neymar finding himself at the centre of a huge transfer wrangle between Barcelona and PSG, it would appear that the Brazil superstar is beginning to lose the support of his once-adoring public. Reports and counter-reports continue to circulate about Neymar's prospective €222 million summer switch to Paris -- conjecture that is beginning to irritate Barca fans, who simply demand nothing short of unwavering loyalty from their players. Indeed, a strongly-worded, homemade poster has been spotted on the streets of Barcelona, taped haphazardly to a lamppost. "Wanted: Traitor," the poster reads, along with a picture of Neymar's face. "Mercenaries out of Barcelona. Only players who love the shirt." Looks like things are about to get ugly.
