Nigerian military finally confirms death of ISWAP leader, Abu Musab Al-Barnawi

The Nigerian military has finally confirmed the death of vicious Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Abu Musab Al-Barnawi. LIB reported in September that Al-Barnawi who is the son of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf who was also killed by security forces in 2009, was killed in Borno state. Mrs. Fati Attahiru, the wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, also perished in the ill-fated military aircraft that crashed at the Kaduna airport on Friday evening May 21. This is according to Leadership newspaper. The Chief of Army Staff sadly also died in the crash. It has been revealed that 12 persons were on board the aircraft when it crashed. Lt Gen. Attahiru assumed office as Chief of Army Staff in January 2021. He was 54 years old. May their souls rest in peace, Amen.

Two soldiers and a Chinese national were abducted during an attack carried out by bandits in Magama local government area of Niger state on Monday, May 17. According to reports, the bandits armed with weapons stormed Libale community in Nasko, Magama local government area and began shooting sporadically. This resulted in an exchange of fire between the bandits and the military who were protecting the Chinese nationals working on a construction site in the community.
