Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in the country are not indebted to MTN Nigeria and other phone companies for using Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) platforms to provide payment services, the Chief Executive Officer, Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe has said. MTN Nigeria reported a half-year revenues of N638 billion in 2020 compared to N566.9 billion reported same period last year. The 12.5% pop was driven by growth in data revenues in the first and second quarters of the year. The company reported a 49% growth in data revenues in the second quarter of 2020 as its Nigerian customers guzzled more data in the ensuing Covid-19 economic shutdown. MTN Nigeria Dismisses 280 Workers

280 staff of the South African telecoms giant, MTN, were on Friday relieved of their duties in Nigeria. The move affected about 15% of the company's entire Nigerian workforce; a number of them being long-serving staff who have worked with the company since it opened business in Nigeria in 2001. Those affected include 200 permanent employees and about 80 contract staff across various levels, ranging from new graduates to senior managers.
