Blaming 8th Senate For Insecurity Under Buhari Is Propaganda – Saraki To MURIC

Bukola Saraki, President of the 8th Senate, has condemned the “unenlightened propaganda” by Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC). A statement by Saraki’s media aide, Oluwole Onemola had recalled an accusation against Saraki by MURIC, alleging that the 8th Senate worked against Buhari on insecurity. MURIC had claimed the 8th Senate rejected the President’s request for $1 billion for the purchase of arms. However, Saraki condemning MURIC’s claims explained that the 8th Senate never rejected any funding request for security but had insisted that due process provided by the constitution be adhered to, even by the executive. The MURIC Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, gave the advice on Saturday in a statement. “The (Kwara) state government must rename those controversial schools. In its reaction to the crisis rocking Kwara State over the use of hijab in some secondary schools, Ishaq Akintola, director of the Nigerian Islamic human rights group, accused CAN of instigating crisis. Violence erupted at the Baptist Secondary School, Surulere, Ilorin, Kwara capital, on Wednesday, over the refusal of the school authorities to allow female Muslim students to use hijab. Parents of the students engaged the school authorities in a hot argument which resulted into a stone-throwing contest between Christians and Muslims. In a statement issued on Friday, 26th February, 2021, the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, contended that Yoruba Muslims have been at the receiving end of political and religious persecution for too long. Kano State has seen a spike in mystery deaths in one week amid COVID-19 threats. With scant resources nationally and low capacity to test, authorities are yet to determine if COVID-19 caused the deaths. The human rights organization stated this in a press statement signed by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola on Tuesday, 2nd April, 2019. MURIC Asks Buhari To Appoint More Yoruba Muslims To His Cabinet

As Nigeria prepares for the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari and his ministerial list, the Muslim Rights Concern has proactively demanded that Muslims must have a fair share of the list of ministers who will be appointed from the South West. This position was made known in a press statement issued by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) on Friday, 22nd March, 2019 and signed by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola. MURIC, a human rights group, argued that despite the fact that Muslims are in the majority in the South West, Muslims in the region have always been shortchanged politically. The group added, “We received the worst treatment under former President Goodluck Jonathan. He appointed six ministers from the sub-region but, to our dismay, all of them we...

MURIC Fires Back At US, UK For Attacking Buhari Over Suspension Of CJN

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has faulted the concerns raised by the United States, US, and Britain over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen. MURIC said both US and Britain should not look at the suspension in isolation but consider the gravity of the offence committed by Onnoghen. The statement reads: “Western countries should not just jump to conclusions. They should not just make it look as if the CJN is being suspended to clear the way for some undemocratic practices. Neither the US nor Britain will allow a judge to accumulate wealth illegally because it is dangerous for the judicial system. Heavy cash lodgements in both foreign and local currencies were allegedly found in the former CJN’s accounts. No responsible government will ignore tha...

My Song, ‘Talk’ Wasn’t Meant To Spite MURIC – Falz

Following the release of Falz’s fourth studio album titled ‘Moral Instruction’, many have continued to question the lyrics and morals of ‘Talk’, one of the songs off the album, saying he recorded it to spite Nigerian-based human rights organization, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC). “I didn’t spite anybody, I just said ‘Brother Muri finished shouting but we did not see him in court’. So whoever wants to catch it should catch it. I only said ‘Muri’ and that could refer to anybody. ‘Talk’ is a song that contains a lot of serious messages that is delivered in a very light manner, and that was what I was trying to achieve”, he said. Speaking further, he rubbished speculations that he may be nursing a political ambition like some of his colleagues, which is why he has been condemning bad...

MURIC Gives Falz 7 Days To Withdraw ‘This Is Nigeria’ Video

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana to withdraw his ‘This is Nigeria’ video and apologise to Nigerians, or face legal action. In the recently released video, some girls dressed in hijab were seen dancing the “shaku shaku” dance. Responding to criticisms that trailed the video, Falz explained that the girls were a representation of the abducted Chibok girls still in Boko Haram captivity. But MURIC, in a statement by Ishaq Akintola, its director, said the dancers in the video in no way depict the situation of the girls. The group also condemned “a character that dressed like a Fulani man, who suddenly abandoned his traditional guitar and beheaded a man” featured in the video. Describing the video as “thoughtless, insensitive and highly provocative...

CAN Denies Instigating Christians Against Voting Muslims

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has denied instigating Christians to vote for only Christians in the 2019 general elections. Speaking in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday, CAN’s national secretary, Musa Asake, said the association could not have asked Christians to vote only Christians because “it was not the right way to go”. “Where did they get that one? I don’t know which CAN they are referring to; but for us at the national body we have not said anything like that because it is not the right way to go,” Mr. Asake said. A group, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC had in a statement on Tuesday accused CAN of instigating Christians against voting Muslim politicians especially the President Muhammadu Buhari. MURIC said in its statement signed the group’s di...

Obasanjo’s Letter: MURIC Blames NASS, PDP For Buhari’s Failure

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has thrown its weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in 2019.   MURIC in a statement signed by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said the National Assembly was to blame for lack of progress in the country and not Buhari.     It stated that Buhari was a victim of a well-knitted political conspiracy.   In reaction to Obasanjo’s letter, MURIC said it was in support of President BUhari’s second term as the former president had chosen to criticise Buhari “‘the victim’ not NASS ‘the Culprit’.”   MURIC speaking in support of Buhari’s second term said “the president can take Nigeria to El Dorado if he is given a second term without conflagration on the roof.”   The statement read “The ...

Herdsmen: Arrest All Killers Not Just Fulani Killers – Muslim Group Tells IG

A Muslim group has advised the Inspector General of Police, Idris Kpotum to arrest all killers and not just Fulani killers in Benue, Taraba and other states affected by the Fulani Herdsmen crisis. Below is a statement signed by the director of MURIC, professor Ishaq Akintola, and made available to PoliticsNGR; “While the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) welcomes this development, we see the need for clarification and modification of Senate’s request. In the first place, we need to ask whether the killers who should be arrested are just herdsmen who have been accused of killings in Benue. If this is so, there is need for modification particularly in the light of the exposure of a killer army being sponsored by Benue State authorities and the claim by herdsmen that the Benue militia ha...
