Civil War: Ikpeazu Demands Apology Over Crimes Against Ndigbo

Fifty-one years after the war ended, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has demanded an apology over the wanton destruction of lives and properties of Ndigbo during the civil war. Dr. Ikpeazu, who spoke during a studio visit to TOS TV Network, a digital Pan-African news network in Abuja, however threw his weight behind the agitation by the indigenous peoples of Biafra, IPOB. The governor who faulted the strategy being deployed by IPOB noted however that that the Ndigbo has not been fairly treated in the country. He insisted that the destructive strategy of IPOB was a recipe for the breakdown of law and order in the South East geopolitical zone. He said, “Who is going to tell us what happened during the civil way, who did what and why? Why can’t some people come and ...

Ohanaeze Backs Umahi On Defection, Says PDP Has Been Unkind To Ndigbo

The pan-Igbo socio-cultural and political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared support for moves by the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, to dump the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress. Umahi reportedly told PDP leaders at a meeting, in Abuja, on Tuesday, that he was leaving the party because of its refusal to zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the South East. Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Chief Chuks Ibegbu, described Umahi’s planned move as “legitimate.” Ibegbu said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent, in Enugu, on Wednesday. He said, PDP will be unkind not to zone the 2023 presidency to the South East that has suffered a lot for it.” In a related development, Umahi’s planned move to join the AP...

Ndigbo Will Cease To Be Nigerians If Denied 2023 Presidency – Ezeife

Elder statesman and former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife has said that no Igbo man will still claim Nigerian citizenship if the South East zone is not supported to produce the nation’s president in 2023. In this interview with WILLY EYA, he was emphatic that denying the East the chance to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 will be too dangerous for the unity of the country. A major issue of concern to every Nigerian today is the increasing level of insecurity of lives and property in the country today; as a senior citizen of this country, how do you feel? I think our traditional leaders including the Obas, Obis, Emirs and others from other areas should hold some kind of summit. It is necessary that the herdsmen are spoken to properly. Whatever happens, ...

Don’t Expect Anything From APC-Led Federal Government – Senator Kalu To Igbos

The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has advised Ndigbo not to be too expectant in the APC led federal government, saying the South East region refused to vote massively for the party in the last election. The former governor dropped the hint at an event in his Camp Neya home in Igbere to thank his constituents for voting him into the Nigerian Senate. He said: “Our people did not support APC. We did not vote for the president and that is what we are paying for. “We are not entitled to anything when we did not vote for APC so we cannot ask for the Senate President or Deputy President. “I am not only a senator for Abia north, I am a senator for Abia and Federal Republic of Nigeria because I was elected to make good laws for the whole Ni...

No Peace Until Igbo Produce President – Nwobodo

Peace may continue to elude Nigeria unless injustices being meted on Ndigbo are reversed; former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, declared, yesterday. Nwobodo, who identified the continued denial of the people of the South East the position of president of the country as one of the major injustices against Ndigbo, said peace will only return to the country when an Igbo assumes leadership of the country. He spoke in Enugu, yesterday, during his 79th birthday celebration, organised for him by Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The elder statesman also said he would continue to fight for the unity of all Igbo, even as he wished he would be Igbo in his next life. Presidential Committee Orders APC to Lift Suspension on Okorocha Within 48hrs

Following the suspension given to the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha by the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Working Committee last week, the Presidential Support Committee, PSC, South East Zone, has given the APC committee 48 hours ultimatum to lift the suspension. According to the Presidential Committee, the suspension on Governor Okorocha came to it as a rude shock. At a press briefing in Owerri on Tuesday, the presidential committee condemned the suspension of Okorocha, saying the act was done by a cabal. It also wondered why the party would suspend what it described as one the ‘major financier of the party.” The presidential committee said the suspension was a ploy to disorganise Ndigbo ahead of the 2023 presidential election believed to be the turn of the zon...

Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha has warned that the Igbo may yet lose out in national polity if they fail to apply tact and political wisdom. Okorocha who recalled the fate of the Ndigbo since after the civil war, lamented that they are about making similar mistakes that put Ndigbo in a disadvantaged position in the Nigerian project. According to him, “The saying that there was no victor and no vanquished after the civil war is just a mere way to create unity for the country, otherwise the Igbo were the vanquished, ever since the Igbo has fared like the defeated but the most painful aspect is that Ndigbo are about to lose again”. The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Sunday said it will do everything within its power to frustrate any attempt to establish cattle colonies in any part of the South East and Biafran land in general. MASSOB, in a statement, said the move to establish cattle colonies is a devious way of imposing Islam and ceding Biafra land to people with sharp difference in their way of living with those of Biafrans. In the statement signed by its National Director of Information, Comrade Samuel Edeson, MASSOB said it has been studying the issue of establishment of cattle colony since the idea was made open to Nigerians and have discovered its hidden agenda. The Ohanaeze leader, in his new year message, noted that the state of the nation could be better than it is, adding that it is the responsibility of the President to put things aright. The president general of the group, John Nwodo, who made this known in Umuahia, Abia state capital, at the third inauguration of the state and local government executives committees of the Abia state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said the restructuring of the polity is and remains the position of Ndigbo in the ongoing debate about the future of the country. Nwankpa gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia on Sunday. The APC chieftain stated that the agitation for a Biafra Republic is not a viable option for the Southeast zone of the country. “For the Biafran agitators, I think Ndigbo need two things: One is that they should try and produce a president of Nigeria. “They should try and work hard to see that a president comes from the Southeast.’’ Nwankpa said a president of Igbo extraction would make the ‘no victor, no vanquished’ declaration at the end of the 30-month Nigerian civil war more realistic. War Drums, The Lies Of History And The Last Nigerian

It is said that history repeats itself, first, as tragedy and then as farce. We are now in the farcical stage. Historical lies are fuelling our latter-day war drums; threatening the fragile foundations of our sinking ship of state. We do not realise that no nation in history has survived two civil wars. One of the biggest lies of all is that the January 1966 coup was not a tribal jamboree. It may well be that the likes of Majors Chukwuma Nzeogwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna made themselves believe that their bout of ethnic cleansing was a “revolution”. But what kind of revolution was it that targeted officers and politicians almost exclusively from only one region with such coldblooded, unrepentant violence? Wise men always look to what people do rather than what they say. The “revenge” cou...

This was just as the group declared that the country had fumbled and wobbled through 18 years of pretending that its unity was settled, restating the Yoruba nation’s belief that the only way that Nigeria would be able to fulfill its destiny as one country was for all Nigerian nationalities to run their lives according to their civilisations in a restructured polity that practices federalism in its truest for...
