Buhari Approves Appointment of New NECO Registrar/CEO

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as the Registrar/Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council (NECO). This is according to a letter signed by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. The appointment which is for an initial tenure of five years takes effect from July 12. Until his appointment as NECO boss, Wushishi was a Professor of Science Education (Chemistry) at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. He was born on April 5, 1965 and hail from the Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State. Professor Wushishi was a lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, before he transferred his service to the Federal University of Technology, Minna. NECO Registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma is Dead

The registrar of the National Examination Council NECO, Professor Godswill Obioma, is dead. Unconfirmed reports claim he was murdered in his Minna home by some unidentified gunmen who invaded his apartment and strangled him last night, May 31. The killers allegedly left without taking any of his properties. Another source however claims he was ill and was rushed to a hospital in Abuja where he died naturally. The family nor NECO are yet to release a statement about his death. An indigene of Abia state, Obioma, 67, was appointed head of NECO barely a year ago on May 14, 2020. NECO Reschedules 2021 Common Entrance Examinations

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has rescheduled the 2021 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal Unity Colleges from May 29 to June 5. The body announced the change in date in a statement released by Mr Azeez Sani, NECO Head of Information and Public Relations Division in Abuja today Wednesday, May 19. In the statement, Sani enjoined candidates, parents, guardians and relevant stakeholders to take note of the new date for the examination. He said that registration of candidates would continue until the new date of the examination while advising candidates, parents and guardians to download the new Examination Time Table from the Council’s website: www.neco.gov.ng. He however did not mention the reason for the change in date.

National Examinations Council (NECO) has released results of the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination for External Candidates. Announcing the results at the Council Headquarters in Minna on Thursday May 6, NECO's Registrar/Chief Executive, Godswill Obioma disclosed that a total of 41,459 candidates registered for the examination, while 39,503 sat for it. The Federal Government has announced the indefinite postponement of this year’s West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and the National Examinations Council because of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. The National Examinations Council (NECO), has shifted the commencement date of the November/ December, 2018 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) to Nov.19. Mr Abubakar Gana, the Acting Registrar of NECO, in a statement issued on Wednesday, recalls that the examination was earlier scheduled to commence on Nov.15. Gana called on candidates sitting for the examination to download the new examination time table on NECO’s website: www.mynecoexams.com “Please note that this information supersedes the earlier media publication on the commencement date for the examination.’’ The acting registrar expressed regrets over the inconveniences the change of date would cause the candidates.
