Buhari Approves Minimum Wage For Pensioners

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has approved the payment of new minimum wage to pensioners. The Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, Dr Chioma Ejikeme, disclosed this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja. She said that with the presidential approval, PTAD had been empowered to start the upward adjustment of all pensioners’ benefits according to the approved template. Ejikeme said the adjustment of the new pension payment would start from May 2021 adding that the payment of the arrears would cover the period of the implementation of the minimum wage. “The arrears from April 2019 will be paid along with the pensioners’ monthly benefit starting from May 2021 payroll.” She said that on April 22, a statement was released ...

Governor Akeredolu Pays N4 Billion To Pensioners

Pensioners in Ondo State under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) have commended the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for prioritizing the welfare of Pensioners by paying over N4 billion arrears of gratuity owed Pensioners by past administrations in the state. The NUP led by its Chairman, Chief Raphael Adetuwo, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the office of the state Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday. Members of the Nigeria Airways branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners on Tuesday prevented the Acting Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, from gaining entry into her office during a peaceful protest to demand the non-payment of their 14 years' pension arears. The Minister was forced to alight from her official vehicle when they refused to vacate the gate, to appeal to the protesting senior citizens. During the protest, the pensioners displayed placards and took over the main gate of the ministry, obstructing human and vehicular movement, particularly the staff who were resuming for duty. The state union chapter chairman, Malam Yusuf Danjuma, made this commendation during his visit to Daura at the ongoing screening and verification of eligible pensioners on Wednesday. He said the State Government had settled the backlog of pension arrears for hundreds of pensioners in the area. Danjuma said the union was particularly grateful to Gov. 5% PSC Remittance: Unlawfully Robbing FAAN To Pay AIB – Unions

Two aviation unions have rejected the recent ministerial directive that five per cent of the revenue collected by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria from Passengers Service Charge should be remitted to the Accident Investigation Bureau. The unions described the remittance as “trying to unlawfully rob FAAN to pay AIB when both are established by law stipulating their source of funding”.
