Nigerian troops attack Boko Haram in Timbuktu warzone, rescue captives

Nigerian troops have raided a major Boko Haram stronghold known as Timbuktu Triangle. The assault resulted in the rescue of citizens who had been in captivity for uncertained number of weeks. The warzone – comprises Buk, Talala, Gorgi – is within the dreaded Sambisa forest and extends to the Lake Chad axis. The notorious Timbuktu region is so expanse that it has parts in Borno and Yobe States. It had remained impenetrable for years despite efforts by the military in several previous operations. India records 77,226 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours to take their total number to 3.38million

India has seen a large spike in number of new Coronavirus cases after 77,226 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day caseload in the world.  India now has a total of more than 3.38 million cases since the start of the pandemic with 46 percent of infections detected in August alone. The country also reported 1,057 new deaths, the Health Ministry said earlier today, taking the total to 61,529. The figures show that India has been recording more than 60,000 new daily infections since August 7, the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks.  The country's previous highest daily count was 75,760 recorded on Wednesday, August 26. Ekiti confirms second index case, awaits result of another

Ekiti State Government has confirmed that a 42-year-old indigene of the state was tested positive, bringing the number of confirmed cases to two. The state’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Mrs. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, who spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said that the male patient had been to the Lagos airport in the last 14-days, which could account for his infection. Chicken consumers in Asaba on Sunday expressed displeasure over the hike in charges for processing the commodity by butchers. A survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Abraka Market revealed that the price for processing one chicken had gone up from N100 to N200.
