Burnley rue penalty calls in Norwich draw

Norwich earned their first Premier League point of the season at the seventh attempt as they battled to a goalless draw at Burnley - but it could have been different had the hosts not seen all four of their first-half penalty appeals waved away. Matej Vydra saw three shouts for a spot-kick go against him before he was subbed off injured on 35 minutes, with the first, from a collision with Tim Krul, perhaps the harshest decision against him. Soccer Saturday pundit Kris Boyd described it as a "stonewall penalty" on Sky Sports. There were also two challenges from Grant Hanley on the Czech cleared by referee Kevin Friend and then VAR, while the officials rightly turned down a handball call against Norwich's Dimitrios Giannoulis just before the break and correctly ignored Charlie Taylor...

Investigators fear 11 boxing matches were fixed by officials at the 2016 Olympic Games including GB fighter Joe Joyce’s defeat in his gold medal fight

Investigators fear eleven boxing matches at the Rio Olympic Games were fixed by officials, including Great Britain boxer ,Joe Joyce's controversial defeat against France's Tony Yoka in a gold medal fight. An inquiry by sport’s top investigator, Professor Richard McLaren, has found evidence of widespread corruption and manipulation in Olympic boxing that stretched back to the turn of the century. His report raises the prospect that fights at London 2012 may also have been manipulated. McLaren said he has concluded that six-figure sums changed hands to decide the decision in some bouts, while others were fixed to benefit national associations or Olympic Committees. The team were called in when an internal probe by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) found 'strong suspic...

Mourinho reveals who to blame for Roma’s 3-2 defeat to Lazio

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has blamed match officials for their 3-2 defeat to Lazio on Sunday. Mourinho claimed the officials were “not at the right level”. The Portuguese saw his side fight back from a two-goal deficit twice only to fall 3-2 against Maurizio Sarri’s side in the Rome derby. During the game, referee Marco Guida dished out six yellow cards, but Mourinho feels the match was undone by his grip on the whistle. “Unfortunately, a fantastic game was ruined by the referee and VAR, who were not at the right level for this match. “The second goal could’ve been 1-1, it went to 2-0. The [lack of a] second yellow for Lucas Leiva was important too. I think my team was the best on the field today. “We dominated, we gave Lazio huge problems, they controlled the fina...
