Two rival gangs from Alakuko area of Lagos and Dalemo, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states, held the neighbourhoods to ransom for days last week, unleashing terror without let or hindrance. From last Friday night to Monday afternoon, the warring hoodlums took charge of the communities, killing one another, vandalising shops along their ‘battle ground’ on Alakuko-Agbado Road and stealing goods. Six persons were reportedly feared dead while others sustained varying degrees of injury before a combined team of police and the military were able to restore normalcy. Amid the chaotic scenario and its attendant losses, no one could pinpoint the immediate cause of the mayhem. Many thought it was another dose of deadly violence which has been on in the area for about three years...

Soyinka Warns Against The Resurgence Of Militarism In Nigeria

Professors Wole Soyinka and John Pepper Clark, yesterday, once again, expressed their deep concerns about the state of the nation. While Soyinka argued that that various agitations across the country were caused by mis-governance, poor leadership, and marginalisation, Clark lamented that for the past 50 years, Nigeria’s situation has not improved for the better, stressing that various issues that divide the nation are still very much present in the system. According to Clark, Nigerians are seeking restructuring because there is a need for a genuine system that would make everyone to have a true sense of belonging. The duo spoke yesterday in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State at the Christopher Okigbo Conference, with the theme, “Legacy of Christopher Okigbo-50 years”. The event was put tog...

Ambode And The Changing Face Of Alimosho

Having lived in Alimosho virtually all my life, and I am getting close to 60 years, I must say that the transformation that has taken place in the area in two years of Akinwumi Ambode’s administration is unprecedented. I say this with all sense of responsibility as a man of God and a resident who has directly benefited from the Midas touch of the governor. At the inception of his administration, Ambode promised to run an all-inclusive government where no area is left behind in the scheme of things and, true to his words, the hitherto forgotten Alimosho has been positively affected in many ways and the man at the helm of affairs in the Centre of Excellence is still poised to do more. I recall vividly on January 21, 2016, when the governor embarked on an inspection tour of our area, pr...
