The Ondo State Security Network Agency otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, have seized one hundred cows after its owners flouted the open grazing law of the State. Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye said the cows were seized after Amotekun operatives responded to a distress call of cows blocking the Ilesa-Akure expressway. UK Threatens Sanctions Against Violence Sponsors In Edo, Ondo Polls

The United Kingdom yesterday said it would deploy observers in Edo and Ondo States to monitor the governorship elections, and threatened sanction, including a travel ban to the United Kingdom, against sponsors of violence in the two elections. The UK said the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, had met with the leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The decisions of the UK Government were contained in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the High Commission to Nigeria. Update: Over 5,000 card readers destroyed in fire incident at INEC office in Ondo

The Independent National Electoral Commission has revealed that over 5000 card reader machines were destroyed in the fire that razed down its office in Akure, Ondo state's capital on the evening of Thursday September 10.   Speaking to journalists at the scene of the incident, INEC Commissioner in charge of Information and Voters Education, Festus Okoye said the Information and Communication Technology section of the commission was affected by the fire.   According to Okoye, 1000 card readers delivered to INEC from Osun State were burnt in the fire while over 4000 card readers belonging to INEC in the state were also burnt.   Admitting that the incident was a setback, the INEC commissioner stated that it will not affect the governorship election.

The Deputy Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Irioju Ogundeji and another member of the House, Adewale Williams have been suspended for kicking against the impeachment of governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi. The Deputy Governor had been served an impeachment notice by 14 members of the house on grounds of an alleged gross misconduct, financial recklessness and negligence of duty among others. However Ogundeji and Adewale Williams who were among the nine lawmakers that kicked against the impeachment processes against Mr Ajayi on Tuesday July 7, were suspended for alleged unruly behaviour. It was further gathered that another lawmaker said to be Ajayi's supporter, Jamiu Maito also resigned from his position as the majority leader of the assembly .

COVID-19: Gov Akeredolu Confirms Ondo Recorded 30 new Cases

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has disclosed that the state recorded 30 new positive cases of COVID-19 in one week. Akeredolu disclosed this on Monday in Akure during a press briefing on the deadly pandemic at the Government House. The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Operation Amotekun, has announced the commencement of its recruitment. Adetunji Olu-Adeleye, Amotekun Corps Commandant in the state, who made this known on Tuesday in Akure, said the recruitment form would attract no charges.   A former governor of old Ondo state, Evangelist Bamidele Isola Olumilua has died at the age of 80. Ekiti Reporters confirmed his death following a chat with a family member. Ondo Records two Coronavirus Deaths

Ondo state has recorded two new deaths linked to Coronavirus complications. The state's Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu confirmed this in a tweet shared on Monday June 1.   Akeredolu said the two late Coronavirus patients are among the three new cases reported in the state. They died at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) in Ondo town, Ondo State.   This brings the total number of Coronavirus deaths recorded in the South-West state to 4. The tweet reads; Today, we recorded three new cases and an unprecedented number of deaths from #COVID19Nigeria in Ondo State.
