IPOB, ESN behind attacks in south-east – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has alleged that the Eastern Security Network, an outfit of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is behind the recent attacks in the south-east region. Onyema Nwachukwu, Army spokesman, said this on Monday, November 1, while briefing journalists on the ongoing military operation in the south-east. According to him, Chukwunonso Iherue, leader of a gang allegedly behind the attacks on police stations in Imo state, was behind the recent violence in Izombe community of the state. He said Iherue was one of the convicts who escaped when gunmen attacked Imo prison in April. Nigerian Army releases images of Boko Haram, ISWAP terrorists after surrender

The Nigerian Army has provided details of Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) members who surrendered this month. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Public Relations, in a statement on Monday, said scores of terrorists turned themselves in between 2 and 4 August, 2021. The spokesman noted that the development has caused apprehension in the sects’ camps. The army said the withdrawal of top commanders and foot soldiers has depleted the strength and fighting efficiency of jihad groups. 19 Boko Haram fighters have surrendered to Nigerian army in Bama, Borno state. This is coming barely 3 days after 28 insurgents surrendered in the area. The Nigerian Army has distanced itself from the attack on the residence of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho. Unknown gunmen had attacked Igboho’s residence in the wee hours of Thursday. It was also gathered that seven persons were killed and his wife kidnapped during the attack. Army names Nwachukwu as new spokesperson

Onyema Nwachukwu, a brigadier general has been named as the new spokesperson of the Nigerian army. Nwachukwu will be taking over from Mohammed Yerima, also a brigadier general who was appointed in February by the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru. Before his recent appointment, Mr Nwachukwu was the acting director of defence information at the defence headquarters. Troops Kill 5 Boko Haram Insurgents, Cleared More Enclaves In Sambisa Forest

Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation Lafiya Dole, said in a statement issued in Maiduguri, that the troops also cleared various enclaves of the insurgents.
