NAFDAC Approves Pfizer-Biotech COVID-19 Vaccine For Use In Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, on Friday approved the use of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria. This is coming few months after it gave authorisation for the use of the Oxford-Astrazeneca jabs in the country. Announcing this at a press conference in Lagos, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye explained that the pfizer-Bio Tech vaccine was for emergency use only. She added that the vaccine can now be stored between -15 to-25 equivalent to freezer temperature.

COVID-19: Governors, Deputies To Be Vaccinated On March 9th

Governors of the 36 States of the Federation on the platform of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) have resolved to take the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, publicly next week Tuesday, March 9. This was one of the decisions taken at their emergency meeting to discuss the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines in the country. In the meeting were the the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, Director-General , Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu and Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib as well as medical experts who play advisory roles for the NGF on the pandemic. Lagos In Talks With COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacturers – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo -Olu , says his administration has started making contacts with Covid vaccine manufacturers including Pfizer, Oxford– AstraZeneca , Moderna, amongst others . He said the government planned to vaccinate up to 50 per cent of the population of Lagos to develop ‘ herd immunity’ to the virus .
