One of the parents of the children abducted from Niger state Islamiyya school has died because of the incident – Principal

One of the parents of the pupils of the Salihu Tanko Islamiyya school where over 150 pupils were abducted last Sunday, May 30, has died. This was disclosed by the principal of the school, Abubakar Hassan, during an interview with AriseTV today June 2. Hassan said the bandits have contacted him and asked for N300 million but that the ransom has been reduced to 110 million. NECO Reschedules 2021 Common Entrance Examinations

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has rescheduled the 2021 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal Unity Colleges from May 29 to June 5. The body announced the change in date in a statement released by Mr Azeez Sani, NECO Head of Information and Public Relations Division in Abuja today Wednesday, May 19. In the statement, Sani enjoined candidates, parents, guardians and relevant stakeholders to take note of the new date for the examination. He said that registration of candidates would continue until the new date of the examination while advising candidates, parents and guardians to download the new Examination Time Table from the Council’s website: www.neco.gov.ng. He however did not mention the reason for the change in date.

A baby with Covid died after being abandoned by its parents because they feared they would catch the virus, it has been reported.   The two-month-old child tested positive before dying on Sunday evening in the Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital in the Jammu region of India. For the first time, mothers of brides and grooms in England and Wales will now be added to marriage certificates. Before now, marriage certificates only included the names of the fathers of the couple, but a change to the Marriage Act means both parents will be included. The Home Office said the move would "correct a historic anomaly". A 10-year-old old boy has been rescued in in Ikot Udota, Eket, Akwa Ibom State by the Child’s and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN) after he was allegedly brutalised and shackled by his father and stepmother. According to the head of the NGO, Sam Ikpe Utauma, the victim, Ekemini was constantly tortured, starved and subjected to various inhuman treatment by the father and his wife. He said the abuse had been going on for eighteen months, however, his situation took a turn for the worse eight months ago, when the father began to shackle and leave him in the backyard overnight, without clothes, claiming that the boy is possessed by demons. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Monday has declared that parents who enrol their children into the Almajiri education system risk prosecution and up to two-year jail term.
