Kogi State Commissioner for Health Questions NCDC’s Claim of a third COVID-19 Case in the State

The Kogi State government has questioned the NCDC's report that a third case of COVID-19 has been recorded in the state. Last night, the NCDC announced 348 new cases of COVID-19 with one of the cases recorded in Kogi.   However, in a Facebook post shared today, the Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna, said that the ministry and indeed the state government is not aware of any of such case, just as it denied knowledge of the first index case and another. “The purported New Case: We are not aware of who the patient is, where and when the Test was conducted. The patient identified as Masefan Ayilaga is said to be a yam trader from Jootar, who recently returned from Kano State. He said “Commissioner of Health Dr. @AMBaloni has announced the discharge of one more COVID-19 case. ”This brings to five the number of patients discharged since 14 April 2020. “She also confirmed that there are three new cases of COVID-19 in the state, all with recent travel history.” Recall that the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on Tuesday, confirmed 117 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria. As at 11:25 pm 21st, April, there are 782 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria, 197 have been discharged with 25 deaths.

Governor Akeredolu debunks claims of NYSC member contracting Coronavirus in Ondo

Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has denied media reports that the state’s third Coronavirus patient was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).   Reports were rife online today that a medical doctor serving at the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment had tested positive for the virus after having contact with the index case.   Reacting via his Twitter handle, the state governor said the third case was a former NYSC member who served in the barracks and was retained after the service year. Nigeria will be able to test up to 1000 suspected cases of coronavirus by the end of this week, the NCDC has said.
