Buhari Approves Minimum Wage For Pensioners

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has approved the payment of new minimum wage to pensioners. The Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, Dr Chioma Ejikeme, disclosed this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja. She said that with the presidential approval, PTAD had been empowered to start the upward adjustment of all pensioners’ benefits according to the approved template. Ejikeme said the adjustment of the new pension payment would start from May 2021 adding that the payment of the arrears would cover the period of the implementation of the minimum wage. “The arrears from April 2019 will be paid along with the pensioners’ monthly benefit starting from May 2021 payroll.” She said that on April 22, a statement was released ...

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a 33% increase for all state pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (Pay as You Go) with effect from January 1, 2020. The Triangular Group of Pensioners in Osun State has berated the Forum of 2010/2011 Pensioners, who shut down the Osun State Secretariat on Friday while protesting against the non-payment of their 12 months pension arrears and gratuities. The Chairman of the Triangular Group, Rotimi Adelugba, who addressed journalists in Osogbo on Monday, accused the other side led by Mr. Omoniyi Ilesanmi of being used by some politicians to attack Governor Rauf Aregbesola. He said the continuous protest in the week preceding the Osun West Senatorial District by-election showed that the protests were politically-motivated.
