Don’t give your phones to Police Officers at checkpoints to search – Police boss cautions Nigerians

Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Bassey Ewah, has warned Nigerians against giving their phones to policemen who stop them at checkpoints without a warrant. Speaking on Wednesday, Nov. 10, while answering questions during a programme organised by the Police Community Relation Committee in Lagos State, Ewah said police officers carrying out an investigation would present a warrant before asking for a person's phone. He then encouraged Nigerians not to give their phones to any officer who doesn't show them a warrant. He said: "I stand to be corrected; please do not give any policeman who stopped you on the checkpoint your phones; it’s not our schedule. If we are investigating you, we will present a warrant and then demand for your phone. Please take note."

EFCC busts 12 suspected ‘Yahoo boys’ in Ibadan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 12 suspected internet fraudsters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren announced the operation in a statement on Friday. The alleged scammers were apprehended at Alapata and Awotan areas of Ibadan. The suspects, mostly undergraduates, were nabbed following intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet-related crimes. Fraudulent documents and other instruments allegedly used in committing the crimes were recovered. Uwujaren said a Toyota Corolla, sophisticated phones and laptops were also seized by operatives. The suspects will be charged to court at the completion of investigations.

Screenshots making the rounds online, purportedly taken from the WhatsApp group of a church, show a sex tape mistakenly sent by a member to the group.   Members of the church in Ghana were shocked when the explicit media was delivered to their phones.   It was sent by a member called Brother Rudolph with the caption, "Mood."   Members quickly expressed their shock, asking Brother Rudolph what he had sent to the group.   Apostle Walter, the Head Pastor of the church, also expressed his displeasure.   The member quickly apologized and blamed it on his friend before deleting it. However, it had been captured by members and is now making the rounds online.

Four Arrested for Phone Theft at Governor Akeredolu’s Inauguration

The Ondo state police command has arrested four men for reportedly stealing phones during last week’s second-term inauguration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. The suspects who committed the offence at the event held at the Dome have been identified as  Ojo Femi, 30, Abiodun Adewale, 45, Kayode Olarewaju, 45 years and Aiwole, 25. They were arrested by men of the Operation Scorpion Squad on the Ilesha-Akure Road while returning to their bases in Oyo, Osun and Kwara states. Police spokesman, Tee-Leo Ikoro said seven phones stolen at the inauguration ceremony were recovered from the suspects who would soon be charged to court.

The Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, arrested nine suspected internet fraudsters. BREAKING: Offa Robbery: Police Reveal 12 Arrested Suspects, Recover Phones, iPads, Other Exhibits

The police have revealed the identities of 12 suspects who were arrested for alleged connection to the last Thursday’s robbery in Offa, Kwara State. Armed robbers stormed the community the afternoon of April 5, killing 17 people and raiding five banks. Eight police officers at Owode Division, Offa, were also killed in the attack, and the robbers made away with police arms and ammunition.
