International women’s goalkeeper accused of being a man as Jordan FA calls for gender test on the Iranian footballer

The president of the Jordan Football Association (JFA) has called for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to carry out a gender test on Iranian women's goalkeeper, Zohreh Koudaei. Iran beat Jordan 4-2 on penalties in September, with Koudaei saving two spot-kicks to help her country to qualify for the 2022 Women's Asia Cup for the first time in their history. But the JFA have doubts over the 'eligibility of a participating player,' and are demanding a gender test on the shot-stopper. They believe Koudaei was in fact a man impersonating a woman. In response, Iran's team selector Maryam Irandoost strongly denied the allegations. Heaven won’t fall if another Northerner is elected President – Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said heaven will not fall if another northerner is elected the next President of Nigeria, DailyTrust reported. He stated this while delivering a keynote address at the maiden Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series organised by the students wing of Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, at the weekend. According to Baba-Ahmed, northerners are not second-class citizens and will not accept to serve as a second fiddle in 2023, when the region has the population to go to clinch the first position. "The North is not for sale and northerners will surprise those waiting for them to queue up in 2023 and be given money in exchange for their votes.” he said. He said anyone who d...

Zambia’s President-elect lauds Commonwealth’s role in peaceful election

President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, has attributed peaceful polls to roles played by the Commonwealth under the leadership of its Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland. In an interview with journalists at the Commonwealth on Tuesday, he recalled how his release was secured by the Commonwealth Secretary General in 2017 as well as her effort that stabilised Zambia. Hichilema said he was imprisoned on trumped-up charges, but was released in 2017 after the intervention of the Commonwealth Secretary-General. “Patricia Scotland didn’t give up. The Commonwealth didn’t give up as they came back before the election”, even though the situation didn’t improve before she left in 2018. Hichilema said Zambia was confronted with numerous political and social challenges of ...

Barcelona has ‘inferiority complex’ around Real Madrid – LaLiga President, Tebas

LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, has claimed the Barcelona board has an “inferiority complex” around Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Tebas described the two clubs’ alliance in opposing the CVC investment deal as a “psychological kidnapping.” His comments were published in Sport on Sunday. Tebas has consistently kicked against Real Madrid and Barcelona’s support for a proposed European Super League, calling it “a joke”. He blamed Madrid and Barca’s rejection of the €2.7 billion investment deal with CVC Capital Partners on the Super League row. Tebas said: “I have the feeling that at Barca there’s a ‘psychological kidnapping’ regarding Florentino, like an inferiority complex. “Florentino is a very intelligent guy and Jose Angel Sanchez, his director-general, is the...

The 58-year-old insists the club's president should not be able to dictate who gets a place in the starting XI at Camp Nou Ronald Koeman has stressed that he must be the one who decides who gets a place in Barcelona's starting XI and not president Joan Laporta. Barcelona are prepared to offer the Dutch coach a new contract before his current one expires at the end of the season, but it has been reported the president wants guarantees that Riqui Puig will be given a role in the first team. Laporta clarified this week that Koeman has "all the power in sporting matters" and that he has the confidence and respect of the board, which the 58-year-old took as a good sign.

LaLiga: I want to remain at Barcelona for many years – Koeman

Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman, has said he wants to remain in the role for many years to come. Koeman’s position looked uncertain after last season as Barca president, Joan Laporta, suggested they could replace him. The Dutchman is, however, still in charge of the Catalan club. His current deal at Camp Nou expires next summer, but the club will offer him an extension if the team meet their targets for the season. “Yes, of course, I am open to renewal. I am very excited to continue as Barca coach for many years, despite the difficult moments at the club today,” Koeman told Sport. “But I think that thanks to our decisions, coach and technical staff, Barca has young players with a huge immediate future and hopefully within three, four or five years I can continue to be their...
