Rwanda becomes first Sub-Saharan African country to ban flights to southern Africa over Omicron COVID

Rwanda has become the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to impose a ban on inbound and outbound flights to southern African countries in the wake of the new Covid-19 variant, Omicron. The new variant was first reported in South Africa last week, with cases subsequently detected in several countries, and many governments have moved swiftly to reimpose flight restrictions. In a press statement, the country's prime minister, Dr. Édouard Ngirente, said that after an extraordinary Cabinet meeting, it was resolved that "direct flights between Rwanda and southern Africa are temporarily suspended". The countries affected by the ban are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned Monday th...

Ronaldo, Pogba, Fernandes think they’re bigger than Solskjaer

Former Arsenal star, Perry Groves, has said Manchester United stars, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes think they are bigger than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club’s manager. Groves also claimed Solskjaer was out of ideas, adding that it is ‘an embarrassment if the Norwegian keeps his job following the 4-1 defeat at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Josh King and Ismaila Sarr gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the first while Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis finished off the game late in the second half. Donny van de Beek had given the visitors a lifeline but just as they started to build pressure, Harry Maguire’s was given a red card for two reckless challenges which killed any hope of a comeback. Watford thrash Man Utd to lift Ole pressure to new Heights

Manchester United's shambolic defeat against a Watford side not flattered by a 4-1 scoreline ramped up the pressure yet further on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. If there are more questions left to be asked about Solskjaer's future at Old Trafford, they will now be raised after a fourth defeat from five against a Watford team who had not won at home since the opening day of the season. United could easily have been behind inside six minutes after Scott McTominay's clumsy foul on Josh King gave Watford an early penalty, but Kiko Femenia's goal on the rebound from Ismaila Sarr's saved spot-kick was ruled out for encroachment, and Sarr was again denied by David de Gea from the retake. Watford did not have long to regret their missed opportunity. Emmanuel Dennis teed up former Unit...

Man Utd hero Park: Solskjaer has brought back spirit and culture to club

Manchester United icon Park Ji-sung says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should remain in charge for the remainder of the season. Solskjaer will be under huge pressure if United lose at Watford today. Park told Goal: "Solskjaer has been working with the team for three years now, this season will be defining for him in terms of his future at Manchester United. I think Ole deserves credit for what he has done during his time at the club, he deserves to bring the season to the end, but he must show that he is able to continue to coach the team in the future. "He was able to bring back the old spirit and culture to Manchester United. Before him were Van Gaal and Mourinho, world-class coaches, but they did not succeed. I think Manchester United learned a lesson from this and decided to tr...

Solskjaer has had more time at Man Utd than other managers – Jamie Carragher

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has insisted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘has been given more time at Manchester United’ than other managers have at their respective clubs in the Premier League. Man United have only won one of their last four matches under Solskjaer and have suffered defeats to Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City recently. But Carragher believes Solskjaer is not being ‘judged solely on the quality of his work’ and that Man United have stuck with the Norwegian because of his ’emotional attachment’ with the Red Devils fans. “There will be those who will argue Arteta should be included in the group alongside Lampard, Pirlo and Solskjaer as a notable ex-player struggling to prove he is an elite coach at the club he played for,” he told The T...

A former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Christopher Green, has claimed head coach of the national team, Gernot Rohr, has done a lot of damage to the country’s football. Rohr remains under pressure, despite qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2022 World Cup playoffs. Nigeria played out an uninspiring 1-1 draw with Cape Verde at home to progress into the third round of qualifying. Fans and pundits have been left unimpressed by the team’s performances lately under Rohr and Green says it has given them “a lot of heartache. He told ESPN: “To most Nigerians, to continue to see the Eagles perform this way gives a lot of heartache. “Our football is suffering. David Beckham urged to cut ties with Qatar and reverse his decision to be a ‘face’ of next year’s World Cup

Football legend, David Beckham is facing huge pressure to reverse his decision to be the ‘face’ of the Qatar World Cup. Recall Amnesty International has repeatedly accused the Qatar government of treating migrant workers poorly in the country. Amnesty’s 48-page report presents a bleak picture of what immigrant workers face, with Qatari promises of the abolition of the hated kafala system which restricted migrant workers from leaving the country or changing jobs without their employer’s permission not in evidence. Senior sources at Unicef, a key part of his charity work for 15 years, are ‘dismayed’ by Beckham signing a multi-million-pound deal with the Qataris. Amnesty said he should use his position to ‘keep the world’s focus on the human rights issues surrounding the matches...

This is the belief of former Chelsea and Aston Villa star, Tony Cascarino, with the Man United boss under increasing pressure following series poor results. Rodgers has tipped as the favourite among many others, including former Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, to take over at Old Trafford. The Northern Ireland gaffer has had a successful stint at Leicester City, guiding them to a back to back fifth-place finish and an FA Cup win since he took over in 2019. EPL: I’m not blind or deaf – Solskjaer tells critics after Man Utd 2-0 loss to City

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has told his critics that he is neither blind nor deaf and could clearly understand their criticisms. Solskjaer said this after Manchester United suffered another dismal 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Saturday. The defeat to City at Old Trafford followed a 5-0 bashing by Liverpool a forthright ago. City’s two goals, an own goal from Eric Bailly and a second half strike from Bernardo Silva did not reflect Pep Guardiola’s side’s utter dominance of the game. When asked about his tense exchange with the Dutch international, Klopp said at his post-match press conference: “I Don’t know 100 per cent. “So, there is never one explanation, you cannot now make a massive story of that because I said before we didn’t defend the half-spaces right. Manchester United eased the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford sealed a comprehensive 3-0 win at Tottenham on Saturday Night Football. Ronaldo produced an inspired performance, volleying in United's opener late in the first half, before laying on a second for Cavani midway through the second with an equally exquisite assist as Solskjaer's side took their first step to recovery after Sunday's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Solskjaer arrived in north London with his tenure hanging by a thread but ensured he lived to fight another day as his team selection and tactics - chiefly to switch to a back five, and partner Ronaldo and Cavani in attack - won the day and ended a four-game winless run in the Pr...

Rodrigo's stoppage-time penalty rescued a point for a spirited Leeds United as they eased the pressure on Marcelo Bielsa with a 1-1 draw with Wolves at Elland Road. With talisman Raphinha forced off with an ankle injury, 19-year-old Gelhardt had two attempts on goal before his driving run in stoppage-time drew a rash challenge and penalty from Nelson Semedo. Rodrigo kept his cool from 12 yards, converting a pressure spot-kick as Leeds salvaged a point from the jaws of defeat to maintain the three-point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone. It would be a huge blow for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if the 27-year-old is eventually ruled out of the crunch game. United have not won their last three Premier League fixtures and the comeback victory over Atalanta only bought under pressure Solskjaer more time.
