Alleged cybercrime: Trial of Naira Marley stalled over absence of prosecution witness

The alleged cybercrime trial of popular musician, Azeez Fashola, a.k.a Naira Marley was stalled today Tuesday, November 30, at the Federal High Court in Lagos, following the absence of a witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecuting the case. Augustine Anosike, a forensic analyst, is the second prosecution witness in the case. Mr. Anosike who concluded his evidence-in-chief on October 27, was scheduled for cross-examination on Tuesday. At today's proceeding, however, the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the witness was absent in court on "compassionate grounds”. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, on a watchlist, ahead of the handover of government in the state. This was contained in a letter to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) dated November 15, 2021.
