Seun, also a musician, made this known while speaking in a recent interview. He spoke on a couple of things including Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara reporters and human right activist. “It’s a shame that we’re still ruled by the same people my father was talking about 35 years ago or something, that’s poor. We need to do better,” he said. “My father said everything he had to about Buhari. He’s a kind person that you don’t need to go far to find out what my father thought about him. “Buhari is one person, you know but I feel the federal government still owes the Kuti Family an apology, not just my dad, and compensation. “Sowore’s cause...

Senate Probes DSS Court Invasion

The Senate has mandated its committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to investigate Friday’s invasion of a federal high court and rearrest of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS). This comes almost a week after the incident. Nigerians have criticised the lawmakers for failing to react and address the issue. The chairman of the Senate committee on Judiciary and Human Rights and Legal Matters, Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), raised the matter during plenary on Thursday. He came under Order 43 of the Senate Standing Rule. Order 43 allows for a lawmaker to raise and issue but prohibits other lawmakers from making contributions or debating the said issue. ‘We Were Wrong, The VP Is Right’ – Wole Soyinka Centre Apologizes To Osinbajo

Remember earlier this week, The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism postponed the presentation of award to the Nigerian Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. According to the organisation in a statement signed by its Executive Director/CEO, Motunrayo Alaka, “the postponement was decided on, to align with protests against the repression of freedom of speech in recent times especially the incident between the Department of State Security (DSS) and Omoleye Sowore, Publisher of Sahara Reporters, on Friday 6 December.” But the press statement released by the Centre has apologized for that move.

According to a statement jointly signed by Deacon S.M Omoyeni, Olusegun Sowore and Robert Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara Reporters was allegedly ‘ injected’ with an unknown substance and beaten by one of the prosecuting counsel. This development, they said happened in the presence of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) inside the Federal High Courtroom, where he had been summoned for hearing of a suit. Soyinka Compares DSS With Dog, Says Dogs More Civilised

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says dogs act more civilised than the operatives of the Department of State Services that stormed the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, to re-arrest the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore. Soyinka said this in a statement titled, ‘Lessons from the African Wild Dog (Lycaeon Pictus)’ on Friday. He said, “A few years ago, I watched the video of a pack of the famed African wild dogs hunt, eventually bring down, and proceed to devour a quarry. “It was an impala, antelope family. The pack isolated the most vulnerable looking member of the herd – it was pregnant – pursued it, until it fled to a waterhole which, for such animals, is the nearest thing to a sanctuary. “A few minutes ago, almost as it was happening, I watched the video ...

She said she had no clear roadmap on how to handle the situation but that she had sent appeals to the United Nations and had been working with Amnesty International and many other organisations to help raise awareness and “hopefully help to secure the release” of her husband. Speaking to PUNCH on the telephone on Friday, Sowore’s wife said, “I’m concerned about what happened to my husband. Sowore May Be Knocked Down By Vehicle If Released By Us, DSS Claims

In yet another ridiculous twist, the Department of State Services on Tuesday said that it was yet to release pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, from its detention facility in Abuja because it doesn't want him to get knocked down by a vehicle on his way out. Spokesperson for the agency, Peter Afunanya, also told journalists in Abuja on Tuesday that Sowore's lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), was yet to come fetch him from their facility. Afunanya said, "We cannot just release Sowore and ask him to go because he may be knocked down by a vehicle at the gate." Afunanya noted that Falana had not been to the headquarters of the service since the activist was granted bail, a claim the popular rights lawyer vehemently rejects. Afunanya claimed that ...

DSS Confirms Receipt Of Court Order To Release Sowore

For the second time in about one month on Thursday, the Department of State Services failed to obey a court order directing the release of pro-democracy activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore. The agency, which was on Thursday morning served with the latest ruling of a Federal High Court, Abuja, by the court’s bailiff and lawyers to Sowore, acknowledged receipt of the document but refused to obey the directive. As at the time of filing this report, there was no indication that the agency was ready to honour the court order and release Sowore and Olawale Bakare widely known as Mandate, who had been detained in their custody since August 3 and 5, 2019 respectively. In a precursor to Thursday’s refusal to honour the order issued by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Fed...

Tacha Is More Influential Than Sowore – Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has suggested the disqualified Big Brother 2019 housemate, Natacha Akide, simply known as Tacha, is more popular than the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore. Sowore, one of the presidential candidates in the 2019 election has remained in custody since an Abuja Federal High Court granted him bail in the sum of N100 million for alleged treason. The situation has remained the same even when the court on Monday reduced the bail term. Omokri recalled that it took barely three days for Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and other to bail the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu out of custody after he was granted bail. In a series of tweets on Friday, Omokri said, “It‘s not just that Nnamdi Ka...

This violates the court order which granted the DSS the right to detain him for 45 days. Sowore Won’t Be Released Until Due Process Is Followed – DSS

The Department of State Service (DSS) has said it won’t release Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, until due process is followed. The DSS stated this in response to why it has refused to release the former presidential candidate despite the latter meeting bail conditions granted him by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The publisher being detained by the security agency is accused of treason, fraud and insulting President Muhammadu Buhari. The federal government has slammed a seven count charge to that effect on him. He was arrested earlier last month for spearheading a revolutionary protest that went on despite his absence. The publisher was granted bail after the DSS declined renewing an order seeking his continued detention after an earlier 45-day detention...
