Igboho, a Yoruba activist had asked all Fulanis Herdsmen in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State, to leave the community following allegations of criminal activities. However, Falana said Fulani people have every right to live in Ibarapa land. Speaking with BBC, the Senior Advocate cautioned against the generalisation of criminal elements. Falana said those responsible for criminal acts should be made to face the wrath of law without an entire ethnic group being labelled criminals. Quit Notice To Fulani Herdsmen: You’re An Ingrate, Angry Northern Governors Blast Akeredolu

Following last week’s ultimatum by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, asking all Fulani herdsmen in Ondo State to vacate forest reserves within the state, the action seems to have pitched him against some of his northern colleagues, as the ultimatum expires today. Interestingly, the angry colleagues of the Ondo State governor belong to the same party with him, the All Progressives Congress (APC). An aide to one of the governors, who spoke to SUNDAY INDEPENDENT exclusively, expressed disappointment that Governor Akeredolu who had benefitted immensely from the support of Fulani leaders, including many of the APC governors in the north, would turn around to stab them at the back. Accordingly, a pro-north political group within the APC, Northern Progressives Youths Coa...

Uncertainty As Akeredolu’s Quit Notice Expires Tomorrow

Unimaginable calm has returned to the border towns and hotspots of kidnapping and other criminal activities in Ondo State since Governor Rotimi Akeredolu ordered herdsmen to quit the state’s forest reserves. However, cattle grazers and their herds were still spotted in droves across the state, unperturbed and uncommonly calm, taking their cattle around for greener pastures unhindered. Also worthy of note is that the troubled spots along Akure/Ilesa, Akure/Owo, Ikare/Epinmi/Akoko-Edo and Owo/Benin expressways, which used to be notorious for incessant kidnapping activities, suddenly become safe, as there have been reported incidence of criminal activities in the last six days. Although the seven-day ultimatum given by the governor to unregistered herdsmen and other criminally-mind...

Salihu Lukman, Ondo Monarchs Back Quit Notice To Herdsmen

Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Dr. Salihu Lukman, has supported Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for asking herdsmen to vacate Ondo State forest reserves within seven days. He argued that the objective was to ensure that the forest reserves were not used as hideouts for kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements. In a statement titled: Caution on Divisive Campaigns And National Security Challenges, he maintained that no rational Nigerian, could oppose the measure generating serious debate, which is at variance with Akeredolu’s intended objective. Lukman, however, argued that the debate on the issue was a complete departure from Garba Shehu’s call for restraint, which urged the state government and Fulani communities to continue their dialogue for better ...

Ondo Herdsmen Quit Notice: “You Are Wrong” – Shehu Sani Tells Akeredolu

@Shehu Sani My Dear Governor Akeredolu, I’m quiet aware of the security challenges facing your state. I appreciate your efforts, but it’s outrightly and completely wrong to ask ALL cattle herders to leave Ondo forests. The sins of a criminal few should not affect the law abiding and peaceful ones who have the right to live and move freely in all parts of our country. Efforts must continue to be made to deal with those who breach the law, while and respecting and protecting the rights of the innocent. Best Wishes.. Thank you.

Landlord, Wife Cut Tenant’s Face Over Quit Notice

A Lagos landowner, Samson Ekweozor, and his wife, Anurika Ekweozor, have allegedly physically assaulted their tenant, Mary Onyian, upon her family’s refusal to prematurely quit an apartment belonging to them at Ikotun-Egbe. Mary, who narrated her experience, said trouble started after the Ekweozors asked her family to vacate the apartment barely a month after they moved in without a plan to refund the rent paid for the apartment. The refusal of the Onyian family to move out of the house attracted the landlord's anger, which led to an attack on Mary leaving her face scarred for life. According to Mary, the landlord and his wife never opened up on the reason for the notice to quit just a month after she and her family moved in. She said: “We don’t know the reason we were aske...
