We Are Tired Of Open Grazing — Miyetti Allah

Miyetti Allah Breeders Association of Nigeria says it is tired of open grazing in Ondo State, calling on government to make provision for ranches as a way of putting an end to frequent herdsmen/ farmers’ crises. The Chairman of the association in the state, Alhaji Bello Garba, stated this on Wednesday in Akure. Garba was speaking during a public hearing on a bill to regulate rearing and grazing of livestock and provide for the establishment of ranches and other related matters. Fulani Herdsmen Sue Oyo State Government over anti-grazing law

Oyo State Government, its House of Assembly and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Oyo State, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo have all been dragged to court by Fulani herdsmen in the state under the aegis of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria, over an alleged gross violation of their fundamental rights. In the lawsuit filed on their behalf by Professor Yusuf Dankofa, the herdsmen asked the Oyo State High Court to declare the law which allegedly victimized them as “illegal, unconstitutional, null and void” because it is “a coordinated attempt or strategy at curtailing their livelihood and further frustrating their lives in breach of constitutional provisions particularly section 33(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As amended)." ...

Benue Bans Open Grazing Of Cattle, Stipulates 5-year-jail Term, N1m Fine

The Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday successfully passed the bill prohibiting Open Rearing and Grazing into law. The house had on Tuesday received the report of its Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources on the bill to prohibit Open grazing in the State. The report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. James Gbande. A perusal of the report shows that the title of the bill was changed from Livestock Promotion, Development and Regulatory Agency establishment bill, to a bill to prohibiting Open Rearing and Grazing of Livestock and provide for the establishment of Ranches and Livestock administration, regulation and control, in line with the feelings of Benue people.
