No one should become a target for rape over the sexuality, rapists should be castrated – Singer Efya reacts to rape of Nigerian lesbian in Ghana

Singer Efya has reacted to rape of a Nigerian lesbian, Elladeevah Ellios in Ghana.   LIB reported earlier that Ellios alleged that she was raped for two days by four men after being drugged. She had also alleged that her only crime was being a lesbian.   Reacting to this on Twitter, Efya described the act as "disgusting" and further stated that no one should be a target of rape because of their sexuality. Septuagenarian sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping an eight-year-old girl in Niger State

A 70-year-old man, Mohammed Sani Umar, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping an eight-year-old girl in the Chanchaga area of Niger state. LIB had earlier reported that Mohammed raped his victim twice after luring her with N80. He allegedly told the victim not to tell anyone after he raped her. He was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court today July 23. He admitted before the magistrate court that he raped the little girl twice because he loved her. Delivering judgment on the case, Senior Magistrate Safuratu Abdulkareem of Magistrate Court III, Minna, found Umar guilty of the offense and sentenced him to 30 years in prison. She added that the jail term was in line with Section 18, Subsection 2 of the Child Right Act (2010) of Niger State.

Police to Prosecute Owners of Uncompleted Buildings Used by Rapists in Kano

Owners of uncompleted buildings used by rapists to perpetrate crimes in Kano state, will henceforth be prosecuted by the state police command. DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command's Public Relations Officer made the announcement in a popular Radio programme "Inda Ranka". He said that “33.3 percent of rape cases had been perpetrated at uncompleted buildings in the state." Rapist Should be Imprisoned for Life – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has advocated life imprisonment for convicted rapists. The body said such a penalty would curb the criminal act. ASUU Chairman, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Dr Dipo Akomolafe, said this on Thursday. He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Okitipupa that rape cases were rising because the government was not enforcing the Criminal Code. The code recommends life imprisonment for convicted rapists and 14 years for attempted rape. He said the punishment “is enough to create fear in the minds of potential perpetrators if only the government can enforce the law”. Jordan Repeals Law Forcing Rape Victims To Marry Their Rapists

Jordan’s Lower House of Parliament repealed a law on Tuesday that allowed rapists to escape punishment by marrying their victims. A royal committee had suggested abolishing the controversial Article 308 in February, among its suggestions to amend the country’s 1960 penal code. Earlier on Tuesday, Human Rights Watch called on lawmakers to remove the article “to strengthen the rule of law and end impunity for violence against women.’’ In July, Tunisian parliament scrapped a similar provision in its penal code while Morocco and Egypt have also removed similar laws. Kano Police Arrests 96 Rapists In 2 Months

The Kano State police Command, on Tuesday said it had arrested a total of 96 suspected rapists in the state between April and now. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Magaji Majiya, said at an interaction with newsmen in Kano that 77 of the suspects had been charged to court, while eight cases were under investigation.
