Anambra governorship election is more expensive than that of Edo and Ondo – INEC

The Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said they've spent more in ensuring the smooth running of the Anambra governorship election, than it did for Edo and Ondo states. INEC’s commissioner for information and voter education, Festus Okoye in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday October 28 said the cost is high because of the “unusual circumstances”. Though he didn't disclose the amount they've spent so far, Okoye however stated that they had to replace 326 generating sets, rebuild the facility where electoral materials are stored which was burnt down, and also replaced non-sensitive materials. He said; “We are conducting this election in a very unusual circumstance, this is because we had to rebuild our offices in Nnewi North and Idemili north...

Thomas Tuchel provides update on Lukaku, Werner’s injuries

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku injuries. According to the German, both players will be out ‘for some days’ after sustaining injuries during the Blues’ 4-0 Champions League win over Malmo. Malmo’s Lasse Nielsen fell on Lukaku’s ankle in the 18th minute of the match, leading to a penalty which was converted by Jorginho and the Belgian was forced off just minutes later and replaced by Kai Havertz. Werner on his part was taken off shortly before half-time after making a late run into the box before falling over, clutching his right hamstring. “We have a twist of the ankle for Romelu and muscle injury and hamstring for Timo, so they will be out for some days,” Tuchel told reporters after the match “We were in a good place inj...

EPL: Man Utd suffer injury blow ahead of Leicester City clash

Manchester United will be left sweating over Raphael Varane’s fitness after he limped off against Spain on Sunday night during the UEFA Nations Cup final. Varane appeared to pick up the knock after stretching to cut out a low cross from Gavi before halftime. He immediately signalled towards the bench and was replaced by Dayot Upamecano. United will be concerned over the extent of Varane’s injury, as he was seen sitting on the bench with ice strapped to his right quad. The Red Devils face Leicester City next in the Premier League and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already without Harry Maguire. Solskjaer would probably call on Eric Bailly or Phil Jones to partner Victor Lindelof in the centre of defence. Varane has only made seven appearances in all competitions for Unite...

Former Leicester City manager, Claudio Ranieri agrees to become new Watford head coach

Claudio Ranieri has arrived at Watford's training ground after agreeing to become the club's head coach. According to Sky in Italy, Ranieri is expected to sign a contract to take over at Vicarage Road on Monday. The Italian, who guided Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016, left his role as Sampdoria manager at the end of last season. Watford sacked head coach Xisco Munoz after less than 10 months in charge on Sunday morning, with the club 14th in the Premier League with seven points from their opening seven games. Spaniard Munoz replaced Vladimir Ivic in December 2020 and guided the club to automatic promotion from the Championship last season. Munoz's last match in charge was a defeat against Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday, with Ranieri set to become Watford's ...

Vieira’s super subs inspire Palace to draw with Leicester

Patrick Vieira's substitutions inspired Crystal Palace to a 2-2 comeback draw against Leicester in the Premier League, who let a 2-0 half-time lead slip from their grasp. Palace have been steadily improving since the Frenchman replaced Roy Hodgson in the summer and began well. However, they failed to take their chances, and coupled with some defensive errors from Joachim Andersen, allowed Kelechi Iheanacho (31) - celebrating his 25th birthday - and Jamie Vardy (37) to both easily slot home and see Leicester 2-0 ahead. "For Leicester now, it's all about the clean-sheet mentality," said Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher at half-time, and things looked to be going the Foxes' way as Odsonne Edouard hit the crossbar. But the hosts deserved to be on the scoresheet and finally made the ...

Everton forward, Alex Iwobi, has been replaced in Nigeria’s squad for next week’s World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, by Lorient striker Terem Moffi, Goal reports. On Friday, Rafael Benitez confirmed that Iwobi is battling an injury and might not play against Manchester United in their Premier League game on Saturday. Benitez’s update came only after the 25-year-old was included in Gernot Rohr’s team for the double-header fixtures against CAR on October 7 and 10. “Alex has a little problem and I’m not sure if he’ll be available for tomorrow,” Benitez said. “But I’m really pleased with the way he’s working and training. I think he’s improving and he’s enjoying that. We can improve him more because he’s working so hard – he can be a much bett...

Owen Hargreaves overlooks Ronaldo, names player Man Utd can rely on

Former Manchester United star, Owen Hargreaves, has overlooked Cristiano Ronaldo and identified David De Gea as the player the Red Devils can rely on this season. Hargreaves believes De Gea is ‘back at his best’ at Old Trafford. The former midfielder stated this ahead of Man United’s Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday afternoon. De Gea has started the new season strongly after having struggled to find consistent form last season as he ended up being replaced by Dean Henderson at times during the campaign. “He made so many big saves. David de Gea was one of the most important players and he’s been fabulous this season, obviously taking over from Dean Henderson,“ Hargreaves told BT Sport. “They can rely on him, he is back to his best.“ He added, “And when you h...

EPL: Sack Solskjaer like Chelsea did with Lampard – Jamie O’Hara tells Man Utd

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Jamie O’Hara, has urged Manchester United to sack their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, just as Chelsea sacked Frank Lampard in January and replaced him with Thomas Tuchel. O’Hara gave Man United the advice while reacting to the Red Devils’ Premier League 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Old Trafford over the weekend. According to him, Man United need to ‘cut ties’ with Solskjaer as he won’t make them title contenders this season, despite their star names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani. Man United are only a point off the top of the Premier League table so far this season, but O’Hara can’t see them mounting a serious title challenge before the end of the current campaign “Disappointing from ...

Sunday was a day of derbies in England and Italy. For Premier League enthusiasts, the focus was on Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta started the season with three straight defeats, which immediately put pressure on him from fans and the media. However, in the past few weeks, he has been able to weather the storm and put the Gunners back on track with consecutive wins. For Nuno Espirito Santo however, the reverse was the case. The Portuguese who replaced his compatriot Jose Mourinho at White Hart Lane began the season with three straight victories. Since then, their brilliant start has been done with two 3-0 defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea. Against their eternal rivals Arsenal, it was a chance to halt the decline and take bragging rights. ...

Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at the club hinges on the success of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford. Solskjaer has not won anything since he replaced Jose Mourinho in December 2018. There have been a few near-misses for Norwegian, with the penalty shootout defeat to Villarreal in the Europa League final this year still a sore point. And now this season they have one less trophy to go for, after West Ham knocked them out of the Carabao Cup. However, in the Premier League, United have recorded four wins and a draw from their five games so far and are level at the top with Chelsea and Liverpool. One of their main factors behind their fine start has been the form of Ronaldo, who has four goals in three gam...

With the game level at 1-1, the United manager replaced the Portuguese pair with Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard in the 72nd minute. Fernandes had assisted Ronaldo's opener in the first half, with the visitors needing a goal in Bern. It was a decision that puzzled Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who said on Soccer Special: "Young Boys were petrified of Ronaldo but Lingard plays how l used to play - he will come back and get the ball, and that's not helping because you are down to 10 men already. "You want the ball going the other way because if the ball goes the other way then your opponents can sq...

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently said he believes Lingard has a big part to play at Manchester United this season with the player focused on working his way into the first team. While some of those objections went disgracefully overboard, the Spaniard’s selection means he becomes only the second-ever manager to take charge of Liverpool and the Toffees. 129 years since William Edward Barclay, the former Newcastle United boss replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the dugout, following the latter’s return to Real Madrid, and now must help Everton bounce back from losing the most decorated manager in the club's history.
