Nigeria Receives 4m doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine from US

4.08m doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine which was recently approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for emergency use in Nigeria after examination, has been received by the federal government from the United States. Representatives from UNICEF and USAID officially presented the vaccine which arrived Nigeria on Sunday August 1 via two planes, at a ceremony in Abuja on Monday August 2. Nigeria’s participation in the women’s 4x100m and mixed 4x400m relays at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan is up in the air. The country now has only two athletes listed for each race by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). On Wednesday, Nigeria had 10 of its representatives disqualified. They were said to have failed to meet the minimum testing requirements under Rule 15 of the Anti-Doping Rules for ‘Category A’ federations. With the draws for the preliminary round of matches for the 2021/22 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup less than a month away, clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League are faced with a heavy fixture schedule.
