Ikoyi building collapse: Death toll rises to 36

The death toll from the 21-storey building that collapsed in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday has risen from 22 to 36. Out of the 36 deaths recorded so far, three are females while the remaining 33 are males. The Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye, who gave the update said out of the nine persons rescued, one is a lady while eight others are men. “Out of the the survivors, we have one female and eight male. Out of the dead, we have three female and 33 male dead bodies.  Rescue work is still ongoing and more hands have joined the rescue team,” he said

One person has died after a cable car cabin became detached from its cable on Sunday, October 31 in Czech Republic. At least 24 people have been killed in floods in southern India after heavy rains caused rivers to overflow, cutting off towns and villages on Monday morning, October 18. UN Reacts to Abduction of Bethel Baptist High School Students

The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has condemned the abduction of some students from Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Guterres’s spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, disclosed this while briefing correspondents on Tuesday, July 6, at the UN headquarters in New York. Dujarric said that Guterres condemned the kidnapping of the students. Dujarric said: "I can tell you that the Secretary-General strongly condemns the abduction of students from the Bethel Baptist School as well as hospital employees in two separate incidents in Kaduna State on July 5. "The Secretary-General is disturbed by the frequency of kidnapping for ransom of predominantly children from schools by extremist groups and criminal networks." ...

The police in Osun state says it has rescued the passengers abducted from a commercial bus at Odo-Osun, near Imesi-Ile in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State on July 5. Gunmen kidnap six ceramic workers in Kogi

Six staff of West African Ceramic Company in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, were on Wednesday morning, June 30, kidnapped by gunmen. Eyewitnesses told Channels Television that the workers were abducted while loading stones which were expected to be delivered in the ceramic site located at Itobe in the same council area. Thirty bodies have been recovered while 65 persons were rescued by local divers after a boat mishap in Tijana in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.
