Cristiano Ronaldo apportions blames for Man Utd’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool

Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has blamed himself and his teammates following their Premier League 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday evening. Ronaldo also admitted that the result against Liverpool was not what Man United wanted, adding that it is now up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to deliver going forward. The Portugal captain was unable to help Man United as Liverpool thrashed the Red Devils at Old Trafford following a hat-trick from Mohamed Salah and a goal each from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota. Reacting, Ronaldo, in a post via his Instagram account after the game, wrote, “Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. “And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame. “Our fans were, once...

This result is insane’ – Klopp reacts to Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Man Utd

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has reacted to his side’s Premier League 5-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. Klopp described Liverpool’s victory over Man United as insane, adding that he never expected the result. A hat-trick from Mohamed Salah and a strike each from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota gave Liverpool all three points against Man United. Paul Pogba was sent off during the encounter. “What can I say? Did I expect that? No,” Klopp told Sky Sports after the match. “What we did in the last third was insane. Pressing high, winning balls, scored wonderful goals. I told them at half-time to play better. We started incredibly well and stopped playing football. We controlled the game after the fifth, it was not about scoring more, just trying to ge...

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has admitted he is beginning to feel the pressure after a poor run of results. The Red Devils welcome Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night, on the back of just two wins in their last seven fixtures. Last weekend, they were defeated 4-2 at Leicester City, a result that saw them drop to sixth place with 14 points. “There is pressure all the time. There is pressure on me of course but we’ve been through this before and come through it stronger as a team and as individuals. “I’m just looking forward to the response. “I’m in dialogue with the club all the time so there is an open and honest discussion all the time,” Solskjaer told a press conference on Tuesday.

Ogbonna header secures West Ham win at Everton

West Ham leapfrogged Everton in the Premier League as Angelo Ogbonna's 74th-minute header was enough to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Goodison Park on Super Sunday. In a game low on quality in the final third, Ogbonna rose to meet Jarrod Bowen's set-piece as Everton suffered their first home defeat of the season after three consecutive victories. Alex Iwobi and Salomon Rondon both missed good chances either side of half-time to put the hosts in front but West Ham recorded successive league wins at Goodison Park for the first time since 1930 on David Moyes' return to his former club. The result moves West Ham up to sixth in the table as Everton slip to seventh and miss out on the chance to move into the top four.

Raducanu falls to defeat in first match since US Open triumph

Emma Raducanu was given a reality check as she stumbled to defeat in her first match since winning the US Open last month, falling 6-2 6-4 to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round of Indian Wells on Friday. It has been 27 days since the 18-year-old stunned the world to become the queen of New York in a fairytale story, but she could not reproduce that level in the Californian desert, going down to the Belarussian world No 100. Raducanu was given the headline slot in the Friday night evening session, but she could not live up to her billing as the super attacking style that served her so well at the US Open proved her downfall early on, and then she squandered a lead in the second set as Sasnovich won four games in a row to seal victory. Had it not been for that incredible wi...

Solskjaer added Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho to his squad this summer and there has been criticism from some fans that another manager would be able to produce better performances with such a talented group. Solskjaer, however, said: “I’m very confident that we will get the best out of this squad. Manchester City has hit out at Liverpool, after he and his staff were spat on during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield. The result took City into third place, behind the Reds in second. Sadio Mane gave the hosts the lead, before Phil Foden slammed it for 1-1. Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected goal in the 81st minute ensured City got a share of the points, after a sensational goal from Mohamed Salah. But the match was marred by the spitting incident and Guardiola has told Liverpool to take decisive action against anyone found to have been involved. “They [the staff] told me, but I didn’t see it. “In every club there are people like this. Some can’t control their emotions. “I am pretty sure Liverpool FC will take measures against this person. I know that Liverpool i...

The hosts went on to dominate the game, but could not find any end product. With defeat looming for Koeman’s side, Gavi chipped the ball back in front of goal where Araujo rose and met it. “They [Granada] wasted time from as soon as they scored. “There wasn’t a lot of space to play short, delicate balls as they defended with every man back. “There was space on the wings to cross, and we had tall players ...

Play was halted for a number of minutes early in the second half as Elliott received treatment from Liverpool's medical staff. Sky Sports' co-commentator Gary Neville said: "The most important thing is the boy but I'm not sure it's a red card. The red card is a result of the injury rather than the tackle." Reflecting on the result, Garkpah provided an assessment of why the Lone Stars were unable to scale the hurdle postured by Gernot Rohr’s men. “I think we started slowly. We showed too much respect to the Super Eagles as we didn’t create many scoring opportunities. “We didn’t trouble [Maduka] Okoye much; he looked to be on holiday for most of the game probably because the formation did not allow us to push higher up the pitch and mount pressure on their back four. “A...
