Brad Pitt’s petition for review in custody case with Angelina Jolie denied

Brad Pitt’s appeal against a court ruling that disqualified the judge in his custody battle with Angelina Jolie has been refused by the California Supreme Court. On Wednesday October 27, the court denied a review of the appeals court’s decision to disqualify Los Angeles superior court judge John W Ouderkirk from further hearing the Pitt-Jolie divorce case. Ouderkirk was let go for failing to sufficiently disclose his business relationships with Pitt's attorneys, something Jolie had been petitioning for since August 2020. The 2nd District Court of Appeal in California granted Jolie’s request to have the judge removed on 23 July, raising questions over the judge’s ability to remain impartial. ‘I have always maintained my innocence’ – Bill Cosby issues first statement after prison release

Bill Cosby has issued a statement after his release from prison. On Wednesday, Pennsylvania’s highest court overturned his indecent assault conviction and ordered his release from prison, ruling that the prosecutor who brought the case was bound by his predecessor's agreement not to charge Cosby. The Supreme court found out that that testimony tainted the trial, even though a lower appeal court had found it appropriate to show a signature pattern of drugging and molesting women. The American comedian and actor, 83, served nearly three years of a three-to 10-year sentence after being found guilty of drugging and violating Temple University sports administrator Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. The sentencing followed pleas from members of Floyd’s family to give Derek Chauvin the “maximum penalty.” “We don’t wanna see no more slaps on the wrist. We been through that already,” said Terrence Floyd, one of George Floyd’s brothers. “In my community, in my culture, we’ve been through that already: smacks on the wrist. No, no, no, no. Becau...

Kenya Court Postpones Ruling On Homosexuality Laws

Kenya’s High Court has postponed a ruling on whether to scrap laws which criminalize homosexuality, citing a heavy case load. Friday’s announcement of a delay was met with dismay by Kenya’s LGBT community and their allies, who have been anxiously awaiting a ruling on the petition, which was filed three years ago. Chacha Mwita, one of the judges, said the files are above his height, adding that one of his colleagues was on leave and other members of the three-judge bench were juggling multiple cases. Chacha Mwita set the decision for May 24. “We plan to meet in April if all goes well and see whether we can come up with a decision. You do not appreciate what the judges are going through.” Gay rights organisations are asking the court to scrap two sections of the penal code that cr...
