Bayero University Kano Cancels 2019-2020 Academic Session

The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) on Monday January 4, approved the cancelation of 2019-2020 sessions for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs in the institution. The announcement was conveyed in a memo signed by the university registrar Fatima Binta-Mohammed, and released barely two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended its nine-month old strike across public universities of the country. Daily Trust reported that before ASUU embarked on a strike in March 2020, BUK had already completed its mid-semester break for first semester of 2019/2020 academic session for undergraduates, while the postgraduate students had just resumed for the session. ICE tells foreign students on visas they must leave US or risk deportation if schools go online-only

U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is set deport foreign students in the U.S. whose schools will switch to online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday, July 6, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), which is run by ICE, made the annoncement for nonimmigrant students taking online courses during fall 2020 semester. Under the new rule, foreign nationals enrolled in U.S. educational institutions will have to take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person or they must take the online classes out of the country or risk deportation if they stay. Man Sues Bugema University For Banning Miniskirts, Lipstick, Sleevelesses

A man has sued Bugema University, Luweero District, Kampala, for banning all female students from wearing dresses above the knee, jewelry, lipstick, sleeveless and open tops, coloured nails, trouser, within the school premises, Pulse Live reports. In the suit before the High Court, the petitioner, Mr Ronald Bwire, claims that on December 12, 2018, the University issued a notice banning female students from wearing miniskirts, ear rings, necklaces, bangles, sleeveless and open tops, coloured nails, lipsticks, trousers and dresses that stop above the knee. UNIOSUN To Expel Over 4,000 Students Over Non-payment Of Tuition Fees

The management of Osun State University, Osogbo has resolved to expel over 4,000 students of the institution who refused to pay their tuition fees within the stipulated period which would expire on 28 of February. In a press statement issued from the Corporate Affairs Unit of the university and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr Gafar Shitu, the management of UNIOSUN said any student that failed to pay the tuition fees before the expiration of February 28, 2017 deadline would no longer be considered to be a student of the university.
