AFCON: Senegal Under Heavy Blow Of Criticism Over Sadio Manes’ Injury

Senegal have been criticised after Sadio Mane continued playing despite suffering suspected concussion in a “sickening collision” with Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha. Mane remained on the pitch for several minutes despite appearing to sustain a head injury in the incident during Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations match . The Liverpool striker scored before eventually being substituted. Brain injury association Headway said Mane’s health had been put at risk. “On the face of it, this seems to be yet another example of football putting results ahead of player safety,” said Luke Griggs, deputy chief executive of Headway. “This was a sickening collision that clearly left both players in enough distress for a concussion to have surely been considered a possibility at th...

Carabao Cup: Arteta Reveals why Arsenal failed to qualify for final

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has blamed his side’s lack of quality for their failure to qualify for the Carabao Cup final. Having drawn the first leg of their semi-final clash at Liverpool, the Gunners lost 2-0 in the reverse fixture on Thursday night. Diogo Jota scored both goals for the Reds, as they booked their place at Wembley, where they will battle Chelsea for the cup. “It is disappointing because obviously when you have the final one game away you have that excitement. “We did everything we could to put out a competitive team. “They [Liverpool] have the quality to finish the game off. “You need to have a squad of 22, 23 top outfield players and to do that, it takes time,” Arteta said at a news conference after the game.

Ten-man Arsenal hold Liverpool after Xhaka red

Arsenal held Liverpool to a battling goalless draw despite Granit Xhaka's early red card in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. With the tie finally getting under way seven days after its original date, following last week's postponement, Xhaka managed to last just 24 minutes at Anfield before being sent off for a reckless last-man challenge on Diogo Jota. But thanks to a brilliant defensive display, and a somewhat underwhelming Liverpool performance, Arsenal will have a real spring in their step ahead of the second leg at the Emirates Stadium in seven days.

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Antonio Conte, will be without two key players when his side tackles Chelsea in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg tie. The two players are Heung-Min Son and Cristian Romero. Conte said this while providing an update on Son and Romero ahead of the Chelsea clash. Conte’s men had lost 2-0 against the Blues in the first-leg at Stamford Bridge last week. “The update on Sonny, for sure, we will have to wait until after the January international break [24 January – 2 February],” Conte was quoted by Tottenham’s official website as saying. “It’s a muscular problem. Carabao Cup semi-final: Tuchel reveals only regret after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Tottenham

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has bemoaned his side’s failure to kill off their Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Tottenham. The Blues created many chances against Antonio Conte’s men, but were only able to win 2-0. Kai Havertz opened the scoring, before Ben Davies put the ball past his own goalkeeper. Tuchel is disappointed that the tie is not over before the second leg. “We could have created a bigger cushion, because we created a lot of big chances for a third or a fourth goal. “Everyone knows it’s not decided. We have to arrive with full focus and in top shape for the second leg, because we need another 90 minutes of top football if we want to go through to Wembley. “It was a well-deserved win in a big match against a very strong opponent,” Tuchel said.
