Semplici was dismissed after Cagliari lost 3-2 at home to Genoa on Sunday, leaving them 17th in Italy’s top-flight with just a point from their three opening league matches. They face a daunting trip to Lazio on Sunday as Maurizio Sarri’s side try to bounce back from losing 2-0 at AC Milan at the weekend. Mazzarri had been out of the game since being sacked by Torino in February last year. Aguero Clears air on Messi-related Barcelona release clause

Sergio Aguero has insisted he does not have a Lionel Messi-related release clause in his contract at Barcelona. Aguero joined Barca as a free agent this summer following his departure from Manchester City in June. It was initially suggested that Messi was one of the main reasons the 33-year-old chose to join the Blaugrana. But Messi has moved to Paris Saint-Germain shortly and it was subsequently reported that Aguero demanded to tear up his agreement with Barca. He has now come out to set the record straight, insisting that it was never stipulated in his contract that Messi’s future was linked to his own in any way shape or form. “I don’t understand why there was talk of this. When I signed, Leo had nothing signed. They were coming to an agreement. “It was invented that...

LaLiga: Why I rejected Messi’s No.10 jersey – Sergio Aguero

Former Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero has revealed why he turned down the chance to take the No.10 shirt left vacant by Lionel Messi’s departure at Barcelona. Aguero said it was ‘out of respect’ for the 34-year-old star now plying his trade with Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentina International signed a two-year deal with Barcelona, having left Man City on a free transfer at the end of May. He hoped to line up alongside his fellow countryman, Messi but the Argentine captain left a few weeks later, signing for PSG. That meant Messi’s coveted No.10 shirt became available, but Aguero, who wore the same number at his previous club, Man City, opted to wear the No.19 shirt for the Catalan club. “Refusing to wear the number 10 shirt at Barcelona?” he told Twi...
