Rodgers: Why Iheanacho, Ndidi, Leicester Teammates Struggled

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers believes a hectic fixture list may have caught up Super Eagles duo Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and their teammates following their 1-1 draw against 10-man Southampton on Friday night. Leicester played against 10 men for 80 minutes of the game after Jannik Vestergaard was sent off for denying Jamie Vardy a goalscoring opportunity. But despite that, it was Southampton who took the lead through James Ward-Prowse’s penalty. Jonny Evans headed home an equaliser from a brilliant cross from Iheanacho. Rodgers’ men however failed to find a winner and therefore dropped points in the race to finish in the top four. And while not offering it as an excuse, Rodgers said their schedule could have contributed to their stalemate at St Mary’s. “W...

This is according to football facts and statistics website whoscored.com. Iheanacho bagged an assist as Leicester held 10-man Southampton to a 1-1 draw at St. Mary, in Friday’s Premier League clash. It was his sixth assist of the season in all competitions for the Foxes. Also, he was involved in Southampton’s goal as he handled the ball inside the box which saw the home team awarded a penalty and was scored by James Ward-Prowse. The assist means he now has nine goal involvement in Leicester’s last six league games. He has scored 17 goals in 37 appearances in every competition in the current campaign.

Iheanacho Bags Sixth Assist As Leicester Slip Up In Top-Four Race

Kelechi Iheanacho provided his sixth assist of the season as 10-man Southampton held Leicester to a 1-1 draw and frustrate the Foxes in their push to clinch a top-four finish, Rushhoursport.com reports. The in-form Iheanacho made amends by assisting Johnny Evans for Leicester’s equaliser, after he gave away the penalty which James Ward-Prowse converted to give Southampton the lead. Also in action for Leicester was Iheanacho’s compatriot Wilfred Ndidi who featured for 90 minutes. Jannick Vestergaard was sent off after just 10 minutes when his tackle on Jamie Vardy was deemed to have denied the Leicester striker a goal-scoring opportunity.

Evans Earns Point for Leicester at 10-man Saints

Jonny Evans' header ensured Champions League hopefuls Leicester avoided a surprise defeat to 10-man Southampton as they drew 1-1 at St Mary's. The hosts may have been fearing a repeat of last season's 9-0 thrashing after Jannik Vestergaard was shown a contentious early red card for denying Jamie Vardy a clear goalscoring opportunity. But, after limiting Leicester and the Premier League's man of the moment Kelechi Iheanacho to some sporadic half-chances, out-of-form Southampton instead took the lead after an hour when Iheanacho's handball allowed James Ward-Prowse to step up and beat Kasper Schmeichel from 12 yards. The Saints' lead lasted only seven minutes as Iheanacho redeemed himself by finding Evans with a cross from deep which was powered home by the experienced centre-ba...

Ings, Southampton's leading scorer with 10 league goals this season, was taken off in the second half of their 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur last week and Hasenhuettl said he had not trained this week. "We have Ings, (Ryan) Bertrand and (Oriol) Romeu out," Hasenhuettl told reporters ahead of Friday's league match against Leicester City, who knocked Southampton out of the FA Cup in the semi-finals. Mason Hopeful Kane Will Be Fit For The League Cup Final

Interim manager Ryan Mason hopes Tottenham Hotspur’s talismanic striker Harry Kane will have recovered in time from an ankle injury to face Manchester City in Sunday’s League Cup final. Kane missed Spurs’ come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Southampton on Wednesday after picking up an injury in last week’s 2-2 draw with Everton — Jose Mourinho’s last game before his dismissal. Mason, at 29 the youngest ever Premier League manager, has been put in charge until the end of the season and stands one win away from being the unlikeliest of men to end Tottenham’s trophy drought. Juande Ramos was the last Spurs manager to deliver silverware in the 2008 League Cup. Southampton vs Chelsea: Zouma Blamed for 1-1 Draw

Former England midfielder, Joe Cole, has accused Kurt Zouma of “switching off” following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at Southampton on Saturday. Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start in charge of the Blues remains intact, but the German looked frustrated on the touchline for most of the game. The Saints opened scoring in the 33rd minute after Nathan Redmond split Chelsea’s defence with an incisive throw ball and Liverpool loanee Takumi Minamino kept his cool with a sublime finish to break the deadlock. Mason Mount equalised from the penalty spot and the points were shared as the match finished all square. Reflecting on Minamino’s goal, Cole told BT Sport: “It was a lovely one-two from Redmond and as the ball gets played in, now you’re talking about margins in football. “Azpili...

Southampton vs Chelsea: Tuchel Gives Reasons for Re-substituting Hudson Odoi in 1-1 Draw

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has criticized Callum Hudson-Odoi’s “body language” and “attitude”, following their 1-1 draw at Southampton on Saturday. Hudson-Odoi started the game from the bench but replaced the injured Tammy Abraham after the first half. Tuchel, however, removed the England forward and brought on Hakim Ziyech in his place. “I wasn’t happy with his energy, attitude with the counter-pressing,” the former Paris Saint-Germain coach told BT Sport about his decision on Hudson-Odoi after the game. However, Tuchel said, “it will all be forgotten tomorrow”. Mason Mount’s penalty cancelled out Takumi Minamino’s first-half goal. On the game, Tuchel added: “Yes we had all chances and all possibilities to win. “We were very good in 80 metres of the...

Southampton vs Chelsea: Tuchel Gives Injury Updates on Abraham, Pulisic, Silva, Havertz

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has ruled Thiago Silva out of their Premier League clash at Southampton on Saturday. However, Tammy Abraham and Kai Havertz could both play a part this weekend. Silva, 36, had missed the Blues’ last three games due to a muscle injury and while the veteran defender trained on Thursday, he is yet to return to full fitness and will not travel for the match. Havertz picked up a knock ahead of Chelsea’s win at Tottenham earlier this month and has managed just two appearances under Tuchel as a result. But the 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been passed fit after returning to full training. There remains a “big question mark” over Christian Pulisic’s availability, with the American forward nursing a minor calf problem. “We’re ve...

EPL: Michael Owen Predicts Southampton vs Chelsea, Liverpool vs Everton

Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has predicted some of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures. Chelsea travel to Southampton in Saturday’s early kick-off, while Liverpool and Everton clash in a Merseyside Derby later in the day. Owen expects the Reds who lost 3-1 to Leicester City last weekend, to bounce back with victory against their rivals. “Incredibly, Liverpool come into the Merseyside Derby undefeated in their last 24 matches against Everton in all competitions at Anfield,” he told BetVictor. “Unfortunately for Everton, I think they’ll have to wait a bit longer for that Anfield win. I’m siding with the Reds to shade it in what should be an entertaining derby.” Owen also predicted that Chelsea will leave Southampton with a narrow 1-0 win, en...

Chelsea Gets Double Boost Ahead of Southampton Clash

Chelsea have received a double injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Southampton on Saturday. Chelsea stars, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz both returned to Chelsea’s full training on Thursday morning at Cobham ahead of Southampton clash. Silva has missed Chelsea’s last three games with a muscle injury. The Brazilian will no doubt be desperate to return to Chelsea first-team when they take on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton this weekend. Havertz, meanwhile, suffered a knock in training prior to Chelsea’s win at Tottenham earlier this month. The 21-year-old Germany international could be in line to feature on Saturday. The likes of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech were also seen putting in the hard yards at Cobham and are likely to be involv...

Southampton vs Chelsea: Rudiger Calls Thomas Tuchel ‘Tactical Fox

Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger, has labelled manager, Thomas Tuchel, as a ‘tactical fox’ ahead of the Blues’ away Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday. He also said that Tuchel is a coach that leaves nothing to a coincidence, adding that the former Paris Saint-Germain works in great detail. Rudiger rarely featured for Chelsea this season during Frank Lampard’s regime at Stamford Bridge. The Germany international has, however, been given a new lease on life under Tuchel. Rudiger has started every game under Tuchel with Chelsea winning four consecutive Premier League games. “Anyone who knows Tuchel knows: He is a man who leaves nothing to a coincidence,” Rudiger told Bild. “He works in great detail, Tuchel is a tactical fox.”

EPL: Referee Mike Dean’s Return Confirmed

Mike Dean will be back to refereeing in the Premier League this weekend. Last weekend, Dean stood down from duties after receiving death threats online. He has now been appointed to take charge of Burnley vs West Brom at Turf Moor. The 52-year-old and his family received the threats on social media, after Dean had been involved in two controversial incidents. The referee showed a red card to West Ham’s Tomas Soucek for catching Aleksandar Mitrovic with his elbow during a 0-0 draw at Fulham. Dean also sent off Southampton defender Jan Bednarek in the 9-0 defeat at Manchester United. Both of the decisions were later overturned following an appeal. Dean was however in charge of the FA Cup fifth-round tie between Leicester and Brighton last Wednesday.

Southampton vs Chelsea: Tuchel Makes Promise to Christian Pulisic head of EPL clash

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has promised winger, Christian Pulisic, that he will have an “important impact” on his squad ahead of their Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday. Tuchel left Pulisic on the bench for Chelsea’s 2-0 victory against Newcastle United in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. Pulisic, who played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, is yet to start a Premier League match since the former Paris Saint-Germain coach replaced Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager in January 2021. The 22-year-old was handed his first start in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley in the FA Cup fifth-round fixture last weekend but he was back on the bench against Newcastle as two goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner gave Tuchel’s men all three points a...

Kepa vs Mendy: Jamie Carragher Names Chelsea’s Better Goalkeeper

Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has identified Edouard Mendy as a better goalkeeper for Chelsea ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Carragher disclosed this on Monday as Kepa started ahead of Mendy in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory against Newcastle United in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. Kepa, who Chelsea signed for £72million in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao, has played second fiddle to the Blues’ summer signing, Mendy, for much of the season. However, Tuchel handed Kepa his first Premier League start since last October on Monday night as Chelsea defeated Newcastle at home, thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner. Comparing both goalkeepers, Carragher told Sky Sports: “Mendy is a better goalkeeper – we have seen that since he came in – but he’s not as good wit...

Tuchel’s men are now in the 4th position on the Premier League table with 42 points after beating Newcastle. “Top four is the target and stays the target There are many teams behind us chasing,” Tuchel told a post-match press conference. “We had many points to recover, and it stays a big challenge because many games are coming. “We’re going to play teams from the top and bottom, every game is difficult, and we will keep fighting.” Chelse...

Chelsea vs Newcastle: We Need ‘Strong’ Kepa in our Squad –Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has insisted that the club needs a ‘strong’ Kepa Arrizabalaga, in his squad. Tuchel said this while explaining why he featured Kepa ahead of Edouard Mendy in the Blues’ Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Monday night. Tuchel said Kepa had a good game in Chelsea’s FA Cup 1-0 victory over Barnsley last Thursday. Two goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner gave Tuchel’s men all three points against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. “We need a strong Kepa in our squad,” Tuchel told reporters. “He had a good game in the cup, so we decided to give him another match to build up a little bit of rhythm and confidence and to trust him because he did very good.” “At the same time, it gives Edouard the chance to mentally recover.” Chels...
