Koeman had to go, but Xavi might not solve Barcelona’s problems

Congratulations to #KoemanOut enthusiasts. The Dutchman was eventually put out of his misery following an abject 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night. It has been a long time coming. Barca President, Joan Laporta, first considered sacking Ronald Koeman in the summer and reportedly told him he needed two weeks to find a new manager. In the end, due to a lack of credible alternatives, Laporta decided to stick with Koeman. Since then, the Catalans have lost to Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Rayo in the league and sit in ninth place. Long-term injuries to Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho and Sergio Aguero have hampered his team selections, while Barcelona have also had to cut down their wage bill to deal with their financial problems. Then Lionel M...

EFL Cup: Tuchel rates Saul Niguez’s performance as Chelsea beat Southampton

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has commented on Saul Niguez’s display during Chelsea’s EFL Cup round of 16 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night. Tuchel said he was pleased with Niguez’s performance for Chelsea against Southampton, adding that the midfielder has taken a ‘huge step’. The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact after arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. Chelsea defeated Southampton 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. Kai Havertz and Che Adams scored the goals for their teams during normal time. Recall that Niguez has only featured once in the Premier League for Chelsea so far this season and was hauled off at half-time following a woeful debut display against Aston Villa some weeks ago. “It was a good...

Ronaldo blamed for Sancho’s struggles at Man Utd

Former England midfielder, Danny Murphy, has blamed Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Manchester United for Jadon Sancho’s struggles at Old Trafford. Murphy believes Sancho is struggling at Man United because Ronaldo’s return at the club has restricted the 21-year-old’s opportunities in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad this season. Sancho is yet to score or assist for Man United following his £73million summer move from Borussia Dortmund this year. “Sancho hasn’t been helped by Ronaldo’s arrival, because it’s restricted his opportunities in his favoured position, with Greenwood also having to play wide,” Murphy told the Daily Mail. “I don’t think arriving at United late after the Euros has helped. Pre-season at a new club is key and I would have turned up the minute I signed if it m...

Danny Murphy questions Man Utd over Van de Beek transfer

Former Liverpool player, Danny Murphy, has questioned Manchester United for signing Donny van de Beek. Van de Beek has endured a frustrating spell at Man United following his £35 million move from Ajax in the summer of 2020. The Netherlands international has scored just once in 39 appearances for Man United. The midfielder is yet to start a Premier League match for the Red Devils this season and has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford ahead of the January transfer window. Asked about Van de Beek’s situation at Man United, Murphy told the Daily Mail: “Who bought him? Was it a bit of public relations because he was one of the few well-known names available at the time? “Sometimes you sign a player and when they turn up, he doesn’t tick the boxes you expect...

Real reason I left Chelsea – Kurt Zouma

West Ham United defender, Kurt Zouma, has revealed the real reason why he left Chelsea this year to join the Hammers. Zouma said he left Chelsea for West Ham because he wanted a different challenge. The centre-back joined Chelsea in the summer of 2014 under Jose Mourinho’s regime. He hardly cements his place in the heart of Chelsea’s defence under a succession of managers. The 26-year-old spent time out on loan at the likes of Stoke City, Saint-Etienne and Everton in a bid to get his career back on track. Zouma had started to make significant progress under former Blues manager, Frank Lampard, but after he was sacked in January, the France international struggled to win the faith of Thomas Tuchel. He was left out of the team which won the Champions League at the end of ...

You joined Chelsea to double your salary – Inter chief, Marotta hits out at Lukaku

Inter Milan Chief Executive Officer, Giuseppe Marotta, has hit out at Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku, over his departure from the Serie A champions. Moratta said that Lukaku left Inter for Chelsea to double his salary. According to him, there was no difference between Lukaku and Edin Dzeko, whom Inter signed for free to replace the Belgium international in the summer transfer window. Recall that Chelsea re-signed Lukaku from Inter in the summer transfer window for a club-record £97 million. The 28-year-old scored on his debut for Chelsea against Arsenal and then netted a brace against Aston Villa. But Lukaku has since failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League. Speaking to Il Corriere Della Sera, Marotta hit out at Lukaku for leaving Inter Milan for money....

Asked whether he thinks he would have achieved more in his career if he had not partied so much, Ronaldinho told Le Parisien, “No! I’m completely happy with everything that’s happened to me. “God gave me a lot. I’m lucky to have experienced very happy moments, so I would not change a thing.” He added, “They [Messi and Neymar] are friends. “We play together. This isn’t a story about idolatry, or fandom. Messi tells PSG to sell one striker

Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Lionel Messi has fallen out with Mauro Icardi and is now pushing the club to include him in a swap deal to get Sergio Aguero from Barcelona, El Nacional reports. Messi only joined PSG this summer after being unable to extend his contract with Barca. But he has already clashed with Icardi, who he is familiar with from their time in the Argentina national team. Icardi believes Messi is the reason he has not been called up for international duty in over three years. It appears something similar might indeed happen at PSG, with Icardi set to leave. Messi wants Aguero to join him in Paris, as the two have been roommates together over many years for Argentina and have a close personal friendship. Fati was speaking at a press conference after signing a new deal until 2027 with his release clause rising to €1billion. “It’s true that the No. 10 jersey has been worn by Leo [Messi] and many players but I’m calm. “I know what I can bring to this team. “For me it’s not a pressure. No one is going to be like Leo, no one is going to be like [former captains Carles] Puyol or Xavi [Hernandez]. No one is going to equal what Leo has done. I’m going to follow my own journey. R. Kelly’s Chicago trial on child pornography charges set for August 2022

R. Kelly has been ordered to stand trial in Chicago on child pornography and obstruction of justice charges next summer. On Wednesday October 20, a federal judge ordered the R&B singer to stand trial in Chicago on child pornography and obstruction of justice charges next year after the scheduled sentencing for his conviction in an earlier sex trafficking trial in New York. U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber appeared to have wanted the trial in Chicago to begin earlier, but he set it for Aug. 1 after one of Kelly’s attorneys, Steven Greenberg, said that he and another of Kelly’s attorneys will be in court on other cases through July. Kelly, who remains jailed in New York, was listening to the hearing on a conference call but he did not speak. His sentencing for the fede...

According to Neville, Solskjaer would rather manage last season’s Manchester United squad. The Portuguese forward made the sensational return to Manchester United this summer to help the Red Devils fight for titles. Ronaldo has helped the club escape some scary moments this season but has been unable to save them from sliding out of the top four. “I thought that last season’s there was something building. Following his departure from Manchester City, Aguero joined the LaLiga giants this summer as a free agent. He was expected to link with his friend and compatriot Messi, but the Argentina captain also left the Camp Nou on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. Aguero could have joined Messi on a list of Barca legends to have worn the No.10 shirt alongside the likes of Ronaldinho and Diego Maradona. But he opted to choose the same number he wears for Argentina. Ansu Fati has since taken the no. 10 shirt. “I chose number 19 because it was available, and I wear it with the Argentina national team. “The players asked me to take the No.10, but I refused. According to him, other players like Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford pose as much threat. “Cristiano’s game has changed over the last number of years, from being a dribbler to being this incredible goal scorer where most of his goals come from inside the box, so that’s how it’s going to be for him at times in the game. “You’ve got to worry about more than him because you’ve got Bruno Fernandes on the back of scor...

Solskjaer also declared he can get the best out of his superstar squad, despite playing a 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday. The result means United have won only two of their last six fixtures. Solskjaer added Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho to his squad this summer and there has been criticism from some fans that another manager would be able to produce better performances with such a talented group. Solskjaer, however, said: “I’m very confident that we will get the best out of this squad. A lot has happened this month and we’ve had Raphael, and Jadon with us since August, and Cristiano since September. “We’ve got loads to work on and we need to improve, we k...

Crouch wants Man United to sign either Declan Rice or Kalvin Phillips to boost their chances of winning the Premier League title. Manchester United signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently in the fourth position on the Premier League table. “Bossing the game in possession, when teams sit in, just does not suit them. “It is why they struggle and something that is confusing given the amount of eye-catching players they have — not least Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba. “Solskjaer will want a midfielder who can link the d...

Vieira’s super subs inspire Palace to draw with Leicester

Patrick Vieira's substitutions inspired Crystal Palace to a 2-2 comeback draw against Leicester in the Premier League, who let a 2-0 half-time lead slip from their grasp. Palace have been steadily improving since the Frenchman replaced Roy Hodgson in the summer and began well. However, they failed to take their chances, and coupled with some defensive errors from Joachim Andersen, allowed Kelechi Iheanacho (31) - celebrating his 25th birthday - and Jamie Vardy (37) to both easily slot home and see Leicester 2-0 ahead. "For Leicester now, it's all about the clean-sheet mentality," said Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher at half-time, and things looked to be going the Foxes' way as Odsonne Edouard hit the crossbar. But the hosts deserved to be on the scoresheet and finally made the ...

Arsenal hero, Paul Merson, has agreed with former Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte over his comments on Romelu Lukaku and Thomas Tuchel. Brighton vs Arsenal: Leno Lied about me – Arteta hits back

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has insisted he had a conversation with Bernd Leno over him losing the No. 1 goalkeeper spot to Aaron Ramsdale. Arteta urged the goalkeeper to concentrate on regaining his place in the side. Leno has not made a Premier League appearance since August 28. In an interview this week, he claimed “there was no clear reason why I was out, but it had nothing to do with my performance.” Ramsdale, who arrived in a £30 million deal from Sheffield United this summer, has quickly established himself as the side’s first choice, starting in all three subsequent league wins over Norwich City, Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur. Gabriel Magalhaes Ready to Achieve Great Things under Mikel Arteta

Four days on from Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Tottenham at a delirious Emirates Stadium, Gabriel Magalhaes is still riding high. "There is nothing better in football than winning a derby," he tells Sky Sports, a white-toothed smile stretched across his face. Especially not when you win it like that. There had been a sense, albeit a cautious one, of something building. Narrow wins over Norwich and Burnley had changed the mood. But Sunday's demolition of Spurs was something else. "We were very pleased to give that happiness to the fans," adds Gabriel. The 23-year-old was absent during the chaotic start to the season which left Arsenal bottom of the table with no points and not even a goal from their first three games. But his return from a knee injury has been a significant factor in...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has dismissed questions over Jadon Sancho's form and insisted the summer signing will shine in a Manchester United shirt. Sancho scored 16 goals and had 20 assists in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund last season, but is yet to register in either category since his £73m move to Old Trafford this summer. England manager Gareth Southgate suggested Sancho's recent form was not worthy of the international call he received on Thursday and said he would need help settling in the Premier League. But Solskjaer was left to ask if Southgate had been watching the night before, when Sancho played 75 minutes of United's 2-1 Champions League win over Villarreal. "Was that interview done before Wednesday night?" he said when Southgate's comments, made on Thursday...
