Twitter Ban: FG has no Right to Regulate Freedom of Opinion – Minority Reps

Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has accused the federal government of having an appetite to ‘suppress’ constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens in Nigeria, following its recent “declaration” of lifting the ban on the use of Twitter in the country. The caucus, in a statement released on Friday January 14 by its Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, stated the the constitution guarantees freedom of speech and opinion by Nigerians, including expressing such through social media tools like Twitter. The lawmaker stated that this freedom of opinion should not be subjected to partisan approval or regulation under a democratic rule. Recently rearrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has written to the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Catriona Laing, asking that the British authorities file a Diplomatic note with Nigeria's Federal High Court indicating Britain's sovereign interest in his trial as a British citizen. Tuition hike: Kaduna State Govt denies deploying security operatives to suppress protest, confirms death of one student

The Kaduna State Government has refuted reports that it deployed security operatives to suppress students of the state-owned College of Education, who were protesting against increment of school fees. LIB had reported that one of the students was shot as security operatives attempted to forcefully disperse the protesters. The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement confirmed that one student died while three security personnel were injured. Kelly have requested to withdraw from the case ahead of the embattled singer’s upcoming federal sex trafficking case in Brooklyn The attorneys, Steven Greenberg and Michael Leonard filed documents to withdraw, which have yet to be approved, on Monday. “Our reasons for withdrawal are significant and it is impossible, in our belief, for us to be able to continue to properly represent Mr. Kelly under the current circumstances,” Greenberg wrote to U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly. Lagos Police Command Dismiss Reports a Police station was Burnt by Hoodlums

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming a police station in the state was set ablaze by hoodlums on Monday May 24. The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the blocking of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu's Facebook account following his live broadcast on Tuesday night February 2. Like they did to ex-US President, Donald Trump, Facebook blocked the account of Kanu. The social media platform is yet to disclose the reason for blocking his page.
