Pelosi rejects GOP threat to censure Rep Maxine Waters

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday rejected GOP claims Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters was "inciting violence" when she said in Minnesota over the weekend that protesters need "to get more confrontational" if former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is found not guilty in the death of George Floyd. Later Monday, Chauvin's defense lawyer moved for a mistrial, based on Waters' comments, including that, "I hope that we are going to get a verdict that says, 'guilty, guilty, guilty,' and if we don't, then we cannot go away." The judge criticized Waters by name for making the comments, calling them "abhorrent," but denied the defense argument that the jury, which wasn't sequestered at that point, could have been prejudiced or intimidated. House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy...

Wasted Chances Cost Liverpool as Real Madrid Reach CL Last four

Liverpool's bid for a seventh Champions League title was ended as Real Madrid battled to a 0-0 draw at Anfield to secure a 3-1 aggregate win and a place in the semi-finals. Trailing 3-1 from last week's first leg, Jurgen Klopp's side knew they needed a fast start and that is exactly what they got, however, they spurned glorious chances with Mohamed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum the guilty parties in the first half, while Thibaut Courtois had to be alert to keep out James Milner's long-range effort. Real Madrid were a constant threat on the break and they went close to a crucial away goal in the first half when Karim Benzema's deflected strike struck the foot of the post, but after the break Liverpool continued to press forward. However, they just could not find a way through t...

Myanmar's military has detained the country's leader Aung San Suu Kyi along with other leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party in an apparent coup. A presenter on military-owned Myawaddy TV announced the takeover on Monday February 1 and cited a section of the military-drafted constitution that allows the military to take control in times of national emergency. The presenter said the army carried out the detentions in response to “election fraud” in last November’s poll and its failure to postpone the election because of the coronavirus crisis, handing power to military chief Min Aung Hlaing and imposing a state of emergency for one year, according to a statement on a military-owned television station. Sunday Igboho And The Threat Of War By Femi Fani-kayode

For soldiers to escort murderous Fulani herdsmen back to a community in Ogun state from which they were earlier evicted and then to publicly whip members of that community for evicting them simply begs belief. Have the people of the South West now become slaves in their fathers land? Have we finally been conquered and occupied? It is utterly mind-blowing. It is wicked. It is evil. It is unacceptable. How much more bloodshed, carnage, violence, insults and humiliation are the people of the South West expected to take? Soldiers are whipping our people like dogs in the street in order to reinstate those that are killing, raping and maiming them? Is our Army a Nigerian Army or a Fulani Army? Are the Fulanis superior to all others? Are they above the law? Is the Presidency a Nigeri...

U.S. Supreme Court May Not Have Final Say In Election, Despite Trump Threat

While President Donald Trump has promised to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in on a presidential race that is still too close to call, the nation’s top judicial body may not be the final arbiter in this election, legal experts said. Election law experts said it is doubtful that courts would entertain a bid by Trump to stop the counting of ballots that were received before or on Election Day, or that any dispute a court might handle would change the trajectory of the race in closely fought states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. With vote-counting still underway in many states in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Trump made an appearance at the White House and declared victory against Democratic challenger Joe Biden. “This is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law t...

"This is deadly stuff," Trump told Woodward on February 7. In a series of interviews with Woodward, Trump revealed that he had a surprising level of detail about the threat of the virus earlier than previously known. "Pretty amazing," Trump told Woodward, adding that the coronavirus was maybe five times "more deadly" than the flu.
