LaLiga Opens up on Threatening to Relegate Barcelona
LaLiga has denied threatening to relegate Barcelona if the club elects a new president before depositing a mandatory €125m bank guarantee.
Barcelona presidential candidate, Toni Freixa, claimed on Thursday that he and the other candidates, Joan Laporta and Victor Font, were informed by then acting president Carles Tusquets about the demand.
The bank guarantee, which has to be ratified by LaLiga, is a way of protecting the club against being run irresponsibly.
Freixa, who is a lawyer, also claimed he met with LaLiga president Javier Tebas in October, to discuss removing the rule of having the bank guarantee.
LaLiga has however denied there was any contact between Tebas and Tusquets.
