Lagos Unveils Rapid Intervention Squad to Tackle Traffic Congestion

The Lagos State Government at the weekend said it had designed a policy initiative christened Rapid Intervention Squad, which it said, would substantially help unlock traffic congestion in all innercity roads and highways in the state. However, the state government lamented the worsening state of traffic congestion in Apapa Central Business District and its environs, noting that Apapa’s gridlock was indeed beyond what it could address alone. Driver In Trouble For Beating Traffic Officer, Tearing Uniform

A 28-year-old driver, John Maxwell, who allegedly beat up a traffic officer and tore his uniform, was on Wednesday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused was arraigned on a charge of assault and damage. The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, said that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 6, at Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos. He said that the accused assaulted a senior traffic warden attached to Pen Cinema Police Station, Benjamin Ogbar, by beating him up while performing his lawful duty. Several police officers are feared to have been killed Tuesday night after suspected officials of the Nigerian Navy stormed a police division in Calabar, southern Nigeria.
