Lagos To Shut Independence Tunnel For 4 Weeks For Repairs From May 3

The Lagos State Government has announced that there will be a diversion of traffic from the Main Carriageway inbound Anthony from Monday, 3rd of May 2021, for a period of four weeks as part of the ongoing reconstruction on Ikorodu Road. A release signed by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, stated that the diversion was necessary in view of the need to address the worsening state of the access road at the Independence Tunnel, Maryland. He explained that the road needs to be fixed urgently to prevent further deterioration of the section, especially with the expected rainfall in the coming season, adding that the repairs will minimise the congestion frequently experienced by motorists along the corridor. The Lagos State Government is set to divert the traffic on Adegbola Street, Ikeja for 15 months, commencing from Sunday 11th April, 2021, in readiness for the construction of Ikeja Overpass, Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Project. A woman took to Instagram to show the injury allegedly inflicted on her by a Bolt driver. She explained that she ordered a ride and saw the estimated cost to be 1,100 Naira. However the driver allegedly chose to take a longer route despite her objections. She said he ended up meeting traffic at the longer route and by the time the trip ended, the fare came up to 1,300. Trailer Crushes Female LASTMA Officer to Death

A female officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, was crushed to death by a trailer in the Apapa arae of Lagos state on Saturday evening May 25th. The deceased identified as Arogundade Remilekun, was said to be at the back of the truck directing traffic when the truck driver reversed. Unknown to him, Arogundade was behind his truck. She was crushed and died instantly. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of LASTMA, Mamud Hassan, said the driver of the trailer fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle which has been impounded by the police. Hassan disclosed that the deceased was survived by her two-year old daughter, a husband who worked in one of the Local Governments in Lagos and a grandmother.
