Young man beaten to pulp and paraded for allegedly stealing transformer cables in Akwa Ibom (photos)

Vigilant youths in Eket , Akwa Ibom State have apprehended a young man who allegedly stole armoured cables from transformers. It was gathered that the suspect was nabbed along Edem Udo and Afaha Uqua Road, Eket on Sunday morning, July 11. According to reports, he had allegedly succeeded in stealing cables from Afaha Uqua transformer before going to Edem Udo transformer to steal more but luck ran out on him as he was caught in the act. The suspect was given a beating of his life by angry residents before being paraded around the community.

At the funeral service for the televangelist, who is an Ondo state indigene, the Ondo state governor eulogized the deceased. Akeredolu described the deceased as a "special child" and a man of peace and love. He said the late church leader visited him after he won the governorship election, but did not say if it was when he was first elected in 2016 or reelected in 2020. Electricity Cable Theft May Attract 7-Year Jail Term

Edo Govt/BEDC Disagree Over Power Outage In 444 Communities

No fewer than 444 communities, spread across the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo are without electricity, Mr Yekini Idaiye, the State Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources says. Idaye made the disclosure in an interview in Benin on Saturday. He said from the figure, 157 communities were yet to be connected to the national grid. The commissioner explained that about 32 of the communities were disconnected by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), while 145 communities had faulty transformers. Idaiye, in addition, said another 110 communities required network rehabilitation.
