Treasury Looters, Disgruntled Politicians Sponsoring Kanu, IPOB – FG

The Federal Government has said politically-disgruntled individuals and treasury looters are sponsoring secession agitators, the Indigenous People of Biafra, to destabilise the country. It noted that the group served no other purpose than to achieve such inglorious aim. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this on Sunday during a press conference in Lagos. Mohammed stated, “IPOB is being sponsored by those I will call the coalition of the politically-disgruntled and the treasury looters. They believe that by sponsoring this group to destabilise the country and trigger chaos, they will realise their ambition of escaping justice and then be free to dip their hands into the nation’s treasury again. “The past few days have been a trying one for Nigeria...

Calls For Calm As Community Tensions Rise In Nigeria

State governors in Nigeria on Friday moved to calm fears after clashes between pro-Biafra supporters and the military risked taking on a wider ethnic dimension. In Jos, the capital of the central state of Plateau, governor Simon Lalong summoned leaders of the Hausa and Igbo communities for talks following skirmishes on Thursday. At least two people were reported to have been killed in violence at two markets but police managed to restore control by firing warning shots into the air, eye-witnesses said. Lalong, who called the clashes “avoidable and totally unnecessary”, imposed an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew in the city on Thursday. Jos lies at the fault line of Nigeria’s religious divide between its mainly Muslim north and the predominantly Christian south, and has been hit ...

Biafra: Kanu Backs Out Of Talks With Southeast Govs

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has backed out of the planned talks between the group and the South-East Governors Forum. On August 30, Kanu had met with the governors at the Enugu State Government House where both parties agreed to hold further talks to seek an amicable resolution to the issues raised by the pro-Biafran group. Another meeting was scheduled to hold between the IPOB leader and the governors on Friday, but, in a statement he personally signed, which was made available to journalists, the IPOB leader said he would no longer continue with the talks. He blamed the development on an alleged plot by soldiers to assassinate him while on his way to the meeting with the governors. He also alleged that he was currently attending to his injur...
