Sokoto-born Aisha Akinola has achieved a big feat after becoming the first African sabbatical officer and the first African to hold the role of the Vice President Welfare in a Scotland University’s 438 years history. The General Secretary, National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has threatened that the union would be forced to embark on strike to protect its members against COVID-19. Ajaero made this known on Wednesday in a letter to the Minister of Power, Mr Sule Mamman, after he reported to work on March 23 from a trip to Germany and Egpyt. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, will meet the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday (tomorrow) to conclude the negotiation on the suspension of the strike by ASUU, which has entered the sixth week. ASUU had claimed that the strike was informed by the poor funding of the nation’s universities and staff remuneration that led to the union’s ongoing strike, which began on November 5. ASUU Strike To Continue as Meeting With FG Ends in Deadlock

The lingering strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU will continue as the meeting between the leadership of the academic union and the Federal government ended in a deadlock today December 4th. The meeting which held at the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu's office, failed to see both parties reach an agreement. The Union began their strike action on November 5th to demand better funding for universities and alleged plans by the Federal government to increase student fees. Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, ASUU president Biodun Ogunyemi, said ''We have been meeting but we are yet to reach any concrete decision''.
