Comeback Kings United Dare City at Etihad

Jose Mourinho Despite snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in the corresponding match last season and in their two most recent matches, Jose Mourinho admits Manchester United cannot keep coming from behind ahead of a test against rivals Manchester City today. Mourinho’s side were 2-1 winners in Juventus in the Champions League last week, ending their Italian hosts’ unbeaten start in all competitions, but have conceded the first goal in recent games several times – including against Chelsea, Huddersfield and Newcastle in the Premier League. United have picked up seven points from losing positions so far in the league, but their manager admits their luck will run out at some point – and hopes it does not happen in the Manchester derby. Mourinho says his Manchester United t...

Smalling Hails Man Utd’s ‘Never-Say-Die’ Spirit

Chris Smalling believes Manchester United’s Premier League revival is being inspired by the rediscovery of the resilience that was the hallmark of their golden era under Alex Ferguson. Smalling Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Bournemouth was the third time in four league matches that United have recovered from a losing position, grabbing the winner in the second minute of stoppage time on this occasion. United trail leaders Manchester City by nine points but have edged up into seventh position after taking 10 points from a possible 12. Callum Wilson gave Bournemouth an early lead on England’s south coast and the home side could have been further ahead before Anthony Martial levelled for United in the 35th minute. United, shaky in the first half, were much improved after the break bu...

Martial To Avoid Action Over Dive

Anthony Martial’s alleged dive in the penalty incident during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton will not be reviewed by the FA, Sky Sports News understand. Anthony Martial Everton Boss Marco Silva accused the United winger of diving after Sunday’s game and said it was wrong to award the spot-kick after replays appeared to show Idrissa Gueye make contact with the ball first. Martial went down under a challenge from Gueye after 25 minutes to earn a penalty which was taken by Paul Pogba, who needed the rebound to give United a 1-0 lead at Old Trafford. The Frenchman continued to make an impact down the left-hand-side – doubling United’s lead in the second half with a curling effort into the bottom corner of Jordan Pickford’s net.

United Looked To Have Got A Valuable Win

Whether it was by default or by design, Mourinho looked to have found an attacking formula to get a tune out of his side. A United win  had looked so unlikely, both before and during the match. Mourinho’s starting XI consisted of a front four of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata with a midfield two behind in Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic. Despite criticisms of his ‘negative’ tactics, Mourinho has arguably been too attacking against United’s top six rivals at times but Chelsea were unnerved by the pressure on their defence and failed to settle in the opening stages.
